Advent calendar is here!

Thomas Mousin and Merry Watters are pleased to present this year’s Advent calendar. Each year, Merry chooses scripture lessons for each day of the season and connects them with a suggested devotion for the day. Thomas designs the graphics for the calendar and writes a poem that can also be sung as an Advent hymn.

Fall Church Conference Schedules

I have met with most churches, and look forward to meeting with a few more in the coming weeks. This year, nearly all conferences were held jointly with other area United Methodist congregations so that, in addition to caring for the ordering of ministry for the coming year as individual congregations, we may look at some possibilities for collaborative ministry that might strengthen and broaden our mission and ministry. Since most of the “business” of the Church Conference is prepared beforehand by various teams within the church to receive final vote at the Church Conference, the majority of our time together will be spent on collaboration.

Blessings! Rev. Debbie Earthrowl, Adirondack and Albany District Superintendent

READING FOR THE DAY

Mark 10:46-52

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

God’s love for me inspires my love for others.

TODAY'S PRAYER

Father God, sometimes it’s not easy to accept and love those who are disrespected by others. Through your grace provide us with courage to love all people. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Until We Meet Again

This image took on special meaning for me in the wake of recent losses within my church family.

It made me think of having to say good-bye to loved ones in the context of my faith. A belief that just as the Canada Geese fly South and are gone from here in the Northeast but still very much with us and will be seen again; so it is when we lose a loved one. They are gone from our space here on planet earth but they are still very much with us and we will see them again. So perhaps instead of saying goodbye to them we should be saying “Until We Meet Again.”

Until then we lean on one another and share the memories of the time we had here with our beloved. Confident in the words of Jesus who says to all who mourn: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places.” (John 14:1-2 NRSV).

This past Sunday’s service at the churches I serve dealt with question: “After Death, Then What?” Faith communities exist to minister not just to its members but to all in the community it serves. In times of sorrow, we long to come along side you and support you.

There is something happening every Thursday at St. Paul’s Church in Castleton!

Our church is located at 1583 Carney Rd., Castleton.

Every Thursday we gather for fellowship and to Recharge. Recharge is a simple worship service for busy people who are hungry to spend time with God. This informal 30-minute worship begins at 6 PM. We sing, reflect on God’s word, and eat a meal together. After dinner is time to talk, play games, or work on an art project. It’s great to share our thoughts and experiences of God’s grace! All are welcome; come as you are and hang out as long as you wish through 8 PM.

In months with a fifth Thursday, we do an all-church mission to help those in need throughout the community and throughout the world. These specifics are announced in person and on social media at https://www.facebook.com/StPaulsCastleton/
