Our Award-Winning Seal-A-Smile Program is Kicking Off in Kenosha Unified School District and Kenosha County Schools

Kenosha County will continue to take significant steps forward in children’s oral health, thanks to the collective efforts of Kenosha Community Health Center (KCHC) and the Children’s Health Alliance of Wisconsin (CHAW).

This alliance marks the start of the Seal-A-Smile program in 28 Kenosha Unified School District and Kenosha County Schools for the academic year 2023-2024.

The Seal-A-Smile initiative is a state-sponsored children’s oral health prevention program that aims to directly deliver dental prevention services to students in public elementary schools. With many children in Kenosha County having limited access to dental care, the program fills a substantial gap, providing prevention, hygiene, and vital oral health education services. It’s particularly geared towards students from kindergarten through fifth grade, ensuring these pivotal services are available free of charge to families.

National Suicide Prevention Month:

The Power of 988

Suicide is a profound and pervasive concern in modern society. It doesn’t discriminate, touching all demographics and communities.

While many of us know to call 911 during a physical emergency, understanding where to turn during a mental or emotional crisis isn’t always as clear. Thankfully, with the establishment of 988, a national suicide and crisis-related emergency number, help is just a phone call or a text away.

Recently, we celebrated unity and health at Kenosha's Festival Patrio!

Our team was on hand to help celebrate the traditional “Grito de Mexico,” or the symbolic declaration of freedom and independence from Spanish rule. The event also helped mark the beginning of Hispanic Heritage month.

We’re joining forces with the Flip the Script campaign to shine a spotlight on the valuable contributions of diverse and dynamic individuals on our team, beginning with Angelica Sanchez, IT/EHR Systems Supervisor.

Pillar Health and Kenosha Community Health Center Expand Behavioral Health Services

In response to the rising mental health needs of Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth counties, Pillar Health and Kenosha Community Health Center have expanded their roster of behavioral health service providers. The addition of these providers aims to address the surging demand for mental health services, including Psychiatry and Psychotherapy services in the region, which have been in short supply. These providers have an emphasis on comprehensive care and patient-focused treatment for children and adults.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in 2020, nearly 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. struggled with mental illness, accounting for around 51.5 million individuals. In Wisconsin, mental illness prevalence among adults mirrored the national average. However, the state faced the additional challenge of limited access to care. This issue is underscored by the vast number of adults with mental illness who remain untreated and emerging issues in children.
