Learning Opportunity for Library Leaders and Managers
The Partnership's Education Institute is back with a new webinar for library leaders and managers.
In this webinar titled Elevate Your Approach: Coaching Strategies for Transforming Challenging Conversations, you will learn how to navigate difficult conversations, like addressing conflicts or managing sensitive topics, with finesse and empathy. Discover the power and effectiveness of taking a "coach approach" to focus on empowerment of the human heart. Building upon concepts such as powerful questioning, active listening and engagement, workshop participants will have the opportunity to elevate their learning through interactive activities and practice conversations with their peers.
Susan Cleyle, a Certified Professional Coach, will be facilitating the webinar. Before gaining her Executive Coach certification, Susan acquired her Master's Degree in Library and Information Studies. She has spent more than three decades in various administrative and executive positions.
The webinar takes place on September 25 from 12:30pm to 2:30pm ET (10:30am to 12:30pm CST). The cost is $110 for members and $145 for non-members. SLA members qualify for the member rate!

Hello everyone,
Sometimes it seems like the calendar year can really fly by on a person if they aren’t careful, and for me, the back-to-school season is absolutely one of those times. September already! Weren’t we all just at our annual Saskatchewan Libraries Conference?
Still, even if you or yours may not be heading back to school this month, there’s always a lingering excitement in the air for the beginning of the school year and a return to life’s routines.
And if the back-to-school spirit and the call of lifelong learning have you eager to pursue some professional development, we invite you to have a look at the SLA’s Continuing Education Grants, available both to individuals to attend a continuing education opportunity (a grant of up to $500) and to individuals or institutions to organize or promote a continuing education opportunity (a grant of up to $1,000). Applications for both the Individual Member and Organizational Continuing Education Grants will be accepted until September 15, so please feel free to add one or both to your homework schedule for the next couple of weeks.
As for me, if precedent holds, I expect I’ll be doing the same thing that I do every year around the back-to-school season: stocking up on drawing supplies that I very possibly may never get around to using. So if you happen to run into me in the stationary aisle, you may gently but firmly remind me that I already have many sets of pencils at home, no matter how good the deals on the Staedtlers may look this time of year.
Until next time,
James Hope Howard
SLA President
