Special Notice for Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October

Trillium has received an increasing number of phishing emails from vendor and provider email accounts. These fraudulent emails can occur when an email account has been compromised by a “Threat Actor.” They can then use the compromised account to send malicious emails to contacts in the compromised employee’s address book or inbox. Effective immediately, Trillium will temporarily block (or “quarantine”) email from the vendor/provider until we receive assurance that the necessary actions have been taken to resolve the issue. Providers will be contacted by a Trillium Network Provider Point-of-Contact. To better protect member information, and prevent disruption of email communication Trillium strongly recommends implementing the following best practices (click on any of the underlined hyperlinks for more information):

Employee Training

  • Educate your employees about cybersecurity best practices, including recognizing phishing emails and social engineering attempts.
  • Conduct monthly training sessions to keep your team informed about evolving threats.

Strong Passwords

  • Enforce the use of strong, unique passwords for all accounts and systems.
  •  Encourage the use of password managers to securely store and generate complex passwords.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

  • Enable MFA wherever possible, especially for critical accounts like email, medical and financial systems.
  • MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring users to provide multiple forms of verification to access an account.

Regular Updates

  • Keep all software, operating systems, and applications up to date with the latest security patches.
  • Set systems to automatically update when possible.

Firewall and Antivirus Software

  • Install and regularly update firewall and antivirus software to protect against malware and unauthorized access.
  • Configure firewalls to block unnecessary ports and services.

Backup and Recovery

  • Implement a regular backup strategy for your important data and systems.
  • Ensure backups are stored securely and tested periodically to verify data integrity.

Secure Wi-Fi Networks

  • Use strong passwords for your Wi-Fi network and change the default router login credentials.
  • Consider creating a separate guest network for visitors to keep your primary network secure.

Access Control

  • Limit access to sensitive information and systems only to employees who require it to perform their job responsibilities.

Regular Audits

  • Conduct periodic security audits or hire a cybersecurity professional to access your systems and identify vulnerabilities.

Security Policies and Documentation

  • Establish clear cybersecurity policies and procedures for your organization.
  • Document these policies and ensure that employees are aware of and adhere to them.

Cyber Insurance

  • Consider investing in cyber insurance to mitigate financial losses in the event of a data breach or cyberattack.

There are a number of organizations that provide information and free resources for organizations including the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), The US Small Business Administration (SBA), the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA), and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA).

Trillium Health Resources and Berth Behavior Consultation:

A Partnership to Promote Behavior-Analytic Services for Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

Trillium Health Resources and Berth Behavior Consultation (BBC) partnered to develop a training program available to current Trillium providers who support adult members with IDD and who provide or want to know more about Specialized Consultative Services (SCS). The sole focus of BBC’s services is SCS for adults and we intentionally focused on developing best practices so that SCS is effective and can create meaningful change in people’s lives (members and caregivers). Learn more about BBC here: www.berthbehaviorconsultation.com

We are eager to equip others interested in providing SCS to adults with IDD so that more members can be supported effectively throughout the Trillium catchment area. Training is also available to students of Applied Behavior Analysis seeking clinical hours towards certification. Current BCBAs may be eligible to earn CUEs. If you or your company want to expand or improve adult services, join BBC Grand Rounds for a peer review (or case review for a case you want feedback on), interested in learning more about best practices, or for more general information or questions, please contact Joshua Garner: jgarner@berthbehaviorconsultation.com

Trillium Supports National Suicide Prevention and Recovery Months

Raising awareness through sponsored events, sharing information

September was a month of hope and healing. National Suicide Prevention Month is our annual reminder that we all have a role to play in supporting ourselves and others. It is the mission of this campaign to ensure our families, friends, and neighbors have access to the resources to discuss suicide prevention and seek help.

Trillium sponsored the 4th Annual Run for Recovery 5K race on September 16th in Roanoke Rapids. This 5K is focused on reaching those struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. Valley Outreaches Ministries leads Valley Celebrate Recovery and is all about the HOPE and FREEDOM that can be found through the power of God from any “hurt, habit or hang-up.” The Run for Recovery 5K run/walk supports our vision to change these statistics one life at a time. Each One, Reach One. We want to REACH those affected by this epidemic and let them know there is a safe place to find help and healing.

Substance abuse and addiction are struggles affecting many in our families, communities, workplaces and churches.

Other events we have participated in include the Out of the Darkness Walk, Youth and Mental Health First Aid community training, and NAMI Walks Wilmington.

Trillium joined with One Community to spread the message of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Whether at the beach, pool, or park, you can help raise awareness of the 988 Lifeline and remind your neighbors they matter with this year's 988 towels. Reserve yours today using the 988 towels form.

Provider Resources

Geriatric/Adult Specialty Team

Geriatric/Adult Specialty Team (GAST) Training is conducted for Trillium by Therapeutic Alternatives. To schedule a training please contact John Dawson at 1-910-231-5097. Therapeutic Alternatives helps caregivers by providing education about mental illness so that people can be more effective caregivers. The Geriatric/Adult Specialty Team does not respond to emergency or crisis situations.

Therapeutic Alternatives helps caregivers by providing education about mental illness but they do not respond to emergency or crisis situations. They assist groups through:

  • Provide training and education that enhances the understanding of mental health, substance use and dementia needs in older adults.
  • Ensure caregivers and service providers understand and know how to assess escalating behaviors to prevent psychiatric hospitalizations.
  • Offer required trainings and contact hours to Long Term Care staff at no cost.
  • Increase the ability of adults living with a mental illness to live successfully in their community with a trained caregiver.
