Hello Members, Instructors, and Students.
Welcome to Fall and the beginning of our 2023-2024 season here at the Visual Arts Center. We hope you are enjoying our 5x5 Mural Fundraiser. I just walked through it again myself today and ended up with three more pieces of art. There are beautiful pieces made by some impressive artists in the Main Gallery, so be sure to stop by before October 31st when the fundraiser ends.
A lot has happened over the summer to bring in more guests and students to the VAC. We have our Art Book Cozy Corner finished and the books are still available to be signed out and used on the honor system. The sign-out sheet is at the front desk, so be sure to ask for it if you want to take a book or two home with you to use for inspiration. Our cozy corner volunteers will organize the books soon, so themes and topics will be easier to find. We painted our parking meter out in the parking lot with a fun undersea theme during summer camp and opened the “Mini Vac”, our shared mini art gallery near our mailbox. This fall, we will be adding an interactive mural to the outside of the building for guests, students, and members to take pictures in front of.
What’s coming up next? Our Annual Meeting will be held in the Main Gallery on October 19th, at 4:00 pm. You are all invited. This will be a great opportunity for you to meet our new incoming board members, ask questions or make comments about what you would like to see here at the VAC. If you are unable to attend this meeting, please contact me personally for an appointment to chat. I am always open for a good conversation. This same evening will be a reception for our “Faces & Figures” exhibit. This exhibit includes our Portrait Studio and Life Drawing class participants art. Also, a reception for "Goblins, Witches, & Ghosts" on display in Rebecca Hall. Other exciting events and dates to remember including Small Business Saturday on November 25th and Giving Tuesday on November 28th. Giving Tuesday is a world-wide giving day that helps non-profits such as ours raise much needed funds for operational costs. This is especially important for us as our insurance company did not provide us with any funds for our hurricane repair expenses, including the roof. We have other items that we would like to update such as the AC to keep you cool, new acoustical panels for both large galleries, and some shade covering for the patio to hold more outdoor classes and events.
In January, the American Cruise line company will be coming to the VAC each week while they are in town. We are on their “Destination Experience” list and are very excited about getting these new guests in front of our art for sale. So, yes, there is a lot going on here, but we always have time for your comments and questions. We hope to see you at the VAC soon.
Yours Truly,
Lisa Gallucci, Executive Director
