Dear Friends,
The Bill of Rights has been every American’s guarantee of freedom since its adoption in 1791. For centuries, Americans have lived by and died for the rights we cherish in this great country. These rights have shaped our way of life, our responsibilities, and our pride as Americans.
The very foundation of our country recognized that we must protect the people from a government that could inflict tyrannical rule and ensure that each citizen held the right to speak freely, to practice religion unencumbered by the government, and to keep and bear arms.
“[A] bill of rights is what the people are entitled to against every government on earth, general or particular, and what no just government should refuse.”
– Thomas Jefferson, December 20, 1787
For centuries, our elected leadership has taken oaths to defend the constitution and the rights enshrined therein and the guarantee of every American’s freedom. Yet today, in New Mexico, our highest form of leadership has clearly revealed a blatant disregard for those very freedoms and for the constitution she swore to defend.
The Governor has revealed that she believes the rights enshrined in the constitution are open to her interpretation and what she deems is right.
