Keeping Our Taxes Promise to Our Local Owners

To prioritize our property tax owners, the Board of Education decided not to levy the full revenue authority granted by the State. This underlevy amounts to $175,000, reducing taxes for property owners in the Yorkville School District. This is the impact on property taxes as influenced by the Yorkville School District. This does not account for other entities impacting the property tax bill.

The operations referendum, passed in April 2023 for $900,000 annually, was calculated to cover operating expenses. The extra $175,000 from the State was unanticipated, but reflects the Board's prudence in keeping tax impacts minimal.

For those interested in the step-by-step decision making process influencing the Board of Education's decision not to levy (leverage) the dollars from our local property tax owners to the maximum amount legally allowed, please read the link with details HERE.

Community Use of School Facilities

Dear Community Members,

In January and February 2022, the Yorkville Joint #2 School District embarked on a strategic planning process in order to define our direction for the future. The team consisted of community members, business leaders, teachers, support staff members, parents, and administrators. During the process, a few community members expressed the desire to have the school building be open to more public use. At that point it became obvious that we (Yorkville School administrators) needed to do a better job with communicating to our community about how often our facilities are used, as our facilities are used very often and quite regularly, which everyone agrees is a good thing. So we would like to share with our community this positive news.

Over the past twelve months, our facilities were used an average of 29 times per month, by organizations such as: Yorkville Youth Baseball, 4H, Broncos Select sports teams, Jr Broncos sports teams, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Yorkville’s PTO, RASA soccer, a benefit event for injured WI law enforcement officers, various adult volleyball and basketball leagues, Golden Touch Basketball Camps, various UGHS sports teams and many other private groups. We are delighted to say that for all of those groups, there was no charge for weekday use, and a $20 weekend fee for just a small number of the listed groups.

We are very proud of our school, and we are very pleased that we can open up Yorkville School to the many excellent organizations that serve our community!

Sincerely,

Bill Ticha
