Champlain Parkway Project

DATE: Friday, October 20, 2023

DURATION:

Unless otherwise noted, work will be restricted to between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., all roadway and lane closures will reopen during the evening hours and on weekends, and access to residential and business driveways will be maintained. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists throughout the work zone. Businesses will remain open! Motorists should anticipate rough and uneven gravel driving surfaces throughout the project limits.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES & TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Pine Street

Continuing through next week, crews will be milling and shimming sections of Pine Street between Kilburn Street and Lakeside Avenue in preparation for upcoming paving operations in early November. This work will take place between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and will require traffic on Pine Street to remain reduced to a single lane until the work is complete. The bike lanes along Pine Street between Kilburn Street and Lakeside Avenue will remain closed.

Traffic along Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Kilburn Street will be restricted to northbound only. All southbound vehicles along Pine Street will be detoured from Pine Street to Kilburn Street to St. Paul Street and will continue along Shelburne Street to Flynn Avenue and back to Pine Street. All side streets between Kilburn Street and Lakeside Avenue including Pine Place, Marble Avenue, Howard Street, and Locust Street will be restricted to right turn only at their intersection with Pine Street. Flaggers will be stationed at each side street to assist motorists. A Uniform Traffic Officer (UTO) will be present at the intersection of Kilburn Street at Pine Street and Lakeside Avenue at Pine Street to assist motorists. Please see the detour graphic below.

In addition, crews will be installing curb along the east and west sides of Pine Street between Kilburn Street and Lakeside Avenue in coordination with milling and shimming operations. Curb crews are anticipated to be on-site starting mid-week. There is the potential for crews to begin installing the new sidewalk along the east side of Pine Street. This work will be completed one section at a time. Crews will remove the old sidewalk before forming and pouring the new sidewalk. Pedestrians will be detoured across the street to shared-use path on the west side and back using the existing crossing locations with rapid rectangular flashing beacons.

Lakeside Avenue

Sidewalk and curb installation will continue along Lakeside Avenue between Pine Street and the westerly driveway of 128 Lakeside Avenue (the Innovation Center). Curb crews will be on-site starting mid-week. Work will continue to construct the segment of the shared-use path along the north side. In addition, crews will begin preparing driveways for upcoming paving operations. This work will require intermittent single-lane reductions with alternating one-way traffic. This work may require driveway impacts as driveways are reduced to a single lane.

In addition, the City of Burlington has a separate paving project taking place west of the project limits near the railroad bridge. This work will require a single-lane closure with alternating one-way traffic.

Flynn Avenue

Crews will install the remaining sidewalks along Flynn Avenue. Portions of Flynn Avenue will be reduced to a single lane with alternating one-way traffic. Sidewalk installation will require driveways to be reduced to a single lane or temporarily closed. Impacted property owners will be notified separately.

South End

Over the next several weeks, crews will be conducting paving activities throughout the South End. Paving activities are weather-dependent.

Flynn and Home Avenues

Next week, crews will pave the final course of pavement along the full length of Briggs and Batchelder Streets. This work will be completed half at a time allowing a single travel lane to be maintained with alternating one-way traffic controlled by a flagger. The travel lane will be a reduced width. Motorists are reminded to use caution and maintain low speeds. Please note that paving operations are subject to weather and subcontractor availability.
