Let’s talk communication.
For those of you who are newer to Northminster, what questions do you have? What do you feel like you still don’t know about the church? Are there things you’ve wondered about but don’t know who to ask? Are you aware of our church budget and how it’s used? Do you know when the church office is open? Have you engaged with long-time members who’ve told you about Northminster’s founding? Do you know that our church Business Meetings are open to everyone (even non-members) and that membership ensures your right to vote? That’s the beauty of Baptist polity.
For more established members, have you introduced yourself to our newer folks? Are you trying to keep up with all the kids in our community? Have you shared our church’s history with new folks? Do you see needs in our community that need to be addressed? How do you see the church changing and how do you feel about those changes?
For all of you, did you know that Renee and I are here at the church to help? To answer your questions and get you the information you need? To connect you with other folks in the congregation who might be able to help you if we can’t? Do you know you’re always welcome to sit in our sanctuary's holy quiet if you need to rest and recharge?
Friends, part of my job is preaching and teaching. Part of my job is pastoral care. And part of my job, often the least visible but incredibly important, is administration. Keeping people connected, supporting our staff members in their work, and generally ensuring that the church is running how it’s supposed to. Of course, I do this with help from all of you. I like to think I’m neither a dictator nor a figurehead but rather a servant leader, so let me serve you. Tell me when you have questions. Ask when you need help. And if you have a concern or a gripe, come talk to me.
My door is always open and I mean it when I say I want us to have conversations. I believe that there are very few problems we can’t resolve if we sit down together and talk it through. So share your heart and I will share mine.

Opening Hymn: Love Divine, All Loves Excelling This hymn is said to have been suggested by a "Song of Venus" from Dryden's King Arthur. It is one of 6,500 written by Charles Wesley, the "sweet singer of Methodism," who was skilled at interweaving literary and scriptural images.
Middle Hymn: Spirit of Jesus, If I Love My Neighbor Brian Wren gave this poem the subtitle "Pilgrimage of Confession" when it was first written, referring in part to the walk made by nine white South Africans in 1972 to draw other whites' attention to the injustice of migrant labor laws.
The Anthem: Beloved, Let Us Love One Another by D.H. Clark and taken from 1 John 4:7-12.
The Communion Anthem: No Greater Love by Claude L. Bass. Text from Song of Songs and John. Adapted by D.H. Clark.
The Closing Hymn: Lord, Dismiss Us with Your Blessing Influenced by George Whitefield's preaching, John Fawcett joined the Baptist church and served as minister in Wainsgate, England, for fifty-four years. Yielding to the persuasion of his parishioners, he declined invitations to move elsewhere. He wrote more than 160 hymns.
