Dear Shawnee UMC Family,

Please join us for Worship

this Sunday

in-person or on Facebook Live at 10:30am.

The Scripture for Pastor Changsu's message will be:

Matthew 5: 13

Salt and Light

‘You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.

The Tuesday Lectionary Group invites you to share some of your favorite scriptures, which we will then share with all members.

Please email them to:

maryann13fenstermacher@gmail.com.

Here are this week's scriptures for study and meditation:

Jeremiah 37:17-21 Later King Zedekiah sent for him and questioned Jeremiah secretly in the palace: "Is there a word from the Lord?" "There is," Jeremiah replied. "You are to be handed over to the king of Babylon." Then Jeremiah asked King Zedekiah, "What have I done wrong to you or your attendants or this people that you should throw me into prison? Where are your prophets now who prophesied that the king of Babylon wouldn't attack you or this land? Now, my master the king, don't send me back to the house of Jonathan the scribe, or I'll die there." So King Zedekiah gave orders that Jeremiah be held in the prison quarters and that he receive a loaf of bread daily from the street vendors--until all the bread in the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained in the prison quarters.

1 Corinthians 14:1-5 Pursue love, and use your ambition to try to get spiritual gifts but especially so that you might prophesy. This is because those who speak in a tongue don't speak to people but to God; no one understands it--they speak mysteries by the Spirit. Those who prophesy speak to people, building them up, and giving them encouragement and comfort. People who speak in a tongue build up themselves; those who prophesy build up the church. I wish that all of you spoke in tongues, but I'd rather you prophesy. Those who prophesy are more important than those who speak in tongues, unless they are able to interpret them so that the church may be built up.

Matthew 10:16-23 "..Look, I'm sending you as sheep among wolves. Therefore, be wise as snakes and innocent as doves. Watch out for people--because they will hand you over to councils and they will beat you in their synagogues. They will haul you in front of governors and even kings because of me so that you may give your testimony my to them and to the Gentiles. Whenever they hand you over, don't worry about how to speak or what you will say, because what you can say will be given to you at that moment. You aren't doing the talking, but the Spirit of my Father is doing the talking through you. Brothers and sisters will hand each other over to be executed. A father will turn his child in. Children will defy their parents and have them executed. Everyone will hate you on account of my name. But whoever stands firm until the end will be saved. Whenever they harass you in one city, escape to the next, because I assure you that you will not go through all the cities of Israel before the Human One comes..."

Psalm 40:11-17 So now you, Lord--don't hold back any of your compassion from me. Let your loyal love and faithfulness always protect me, because countless evils surround me. My wrongdoings have caught up with me--I can't see a thing! There's more of them than hairs on my head--my courage leaves me. Favor me, Oh Lord, and deliver me! Lord, come quickly and help me! Let those who seek my life, who want me dead, be disgraced and put to shame. Let those who want to do me harm be thoroughly frustrated and humiliated. Let those who say to me, "Yes! Oh yes!" be destroyed by their shame. But let all who seek you celebrate and rejoice in you. Let those who love your salvation always say, "The Lord is great!" But me? I'm weak and needy. Let the Lord think of me. You are my rescuer. My God, don't wait any longer!
