Families of children with disabilities often need to access government benefitprograms for medical services. These systems can be confusing and daunting forconsumers to navigate. Knowing the basics of the process can alleviate some ofthe stress in applying for benefits and programs. In this presentation, participantswill get a better understanding of the application process for the Federal SSDIand SSI programs.

Lisa Math, BSc, CRPS-F,

Director of Family S.T.A.R. Program 

Lisa Math is the statewide Director of the Family S.T.A.R. program for Family Network on Disabilities. She is also a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist with an endorsement in working with Families, as well as a certified trainer for numerous programs.

In her role at FND, she supports families who have children with special healthcare needs, complex medical challenges, developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. She has created webinars, resource materials, curricula, and presentations that she has presented at conferences and meetings throughout the state. Lisa serves on many committees throughout the state that support individuals with disabilities. She has been honored by numerous organizations for her advocacy efforts.

Although her career has also included working in television, radio, adult and elementary education, her most important job is that as a parent of a 25 year old young adult who has multiple medical conditions and mental health challenges. Lisa gave up her career while her child was young to become her child’s advocate and to navigate services, systems, and resources to meet their needs, but returned years ago as a professional to use her lived experience and training to support families on their journeys.

Lisa is an award winning poet and writer, and enjoys traveling, watching historical dramas and chocolate.
