KICKOFF: FIRST STATEWIDE ELECTION

December 1 marked the first important deadline of the Presidential Preference Primary (PPP) when the Republican and Democratic parties notified the office that they would be participating in the preference primary. The PPP will be held March 19 and replaces caucuses that parties conducted in recent years to determine how delegates to the national conventions would be allocated.

CHANUKAH AT THE KANSAS STATE CAPITOL

I was honored to attend the annual Chanukah at the Kansas Capitol. Though I have attended the ceremony in past years, this year was especially solemn with the recent turmoil and attacks our Jewish community has faced both in Israel and throughout the world.

May this "Festival of Lights" be a symbol that no matter how dark the day may be, the light shall always prevail.

KSN TV WICHITA INTERVIEW

I had the opportunity to interview with KSN TV of Wichita to discuss the presidential preference primary taking place in Kansas on March 19.

In these pivotal moments that shape the course of our nation, the significance of active participation in the democratic process cannot be overstated. The deadline to register or update your voter registration is Tuesday, February 20. Visit VoteKansas.gov to do so.

2024 BIENNIAL BUSINESS FILINGS

A quick reminder about business filing changes. This January marks the start of our new information report filling for businesses. These reports will be filed every two years instead of the previous requirement to file annually. Say hello to less paperwork and more business time.

GIRARD AREA CHAMBER COFFEE VISIT

I stopped by to visit with members of the Girard Area Chamber of Commerce to share information about changes that Kansas businesses will see when filing with our office this year.

One of these changes is the new biennial filing system. Every year Kansas business owners have been required to file an annual report with the Secretary of State's office. Now, businesses will file an "Information Report" every two years instead of an "Annual Report" every year. The content of the report will remain the same. This change is the result of a bill I introduced during the 2021 Kansas legislative session to reduce filing requirements.

Three candidates are currently filed to be on the ballot for the Presidential Preference Primary on March 19. The deadline to file for the primary is January 19th, 2024.
