IRIS Volunteers Needed
IRIS-Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services-CT's largest refugee resettlement program, has an immediate need for volunteers for its Summer Learning Program (SLP) in Hartford.
The program is a social-academic program that serves about 80 students of all ages (infant-grade 12) and cultures (Afghan, Syrian, Congolese, Ukrainian, South and Central American, etc.) with a focus on English language learning. The program runs for 6 weeks Mon-Fri 8:30 am-12:30 pm except on Weds, until 1:30 pm. Volunteers can choose which days and times they can assist. This is a great opportunity for those who enjoy other cultures and working with children, though we also have opportunities to work with our adult clients enrolled in adult English classes as well. We need help with serving breakfast and lunch, cleaning up, working with students one on one or in small groups to support the efforts of our teachers and assistant teachers, etc. Many of our staff members speak the languages of our students and are available to provide language assistance.
If interested, please complete an application, found at https://irisct.org/volunteer-application/.
All volunteers will need to complete a background check as well once an application is submitted.
