The fiscal year (FY) 2023 Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for Safe Streets and Roads for All grants is now live on Grants.gov and open for applications.
The deadline for applications is July 10, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. ET.
The program provides funding for MPOs, towns, transit agencies, and multijurisdictional groups through two types of grants.
-
Action Plan Grants which develop, update or support a comprehensive safety action plan for submitting agencies, or
-
Implementation Grants which implement projects identified in a safety action plan.
Safety action plans are similar to Local Road Safety Plans recently introduced to Kentucky by KYTC and FHWA and supported by UK/T2. These plans, which must meet specific requirements established by the program, serve as the basis for project identification and prioritization to direct implementation funding. Once developed, the Safety Action Plan may be used to pursue funding through the SS4A program or the KYTC Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP).

Work zones present many challenges for trucks and buses – narrow lanes, sudden stops, traffic pattern shifts, and uneven road surfaces require all drivers to stay alert. In fact, large trucks are over represented in work zone crashes, making up nearly one-third of fatal work zone crashes. It’s critical that all road users approach work zones with caution and do their part to keep the road safe for everyone.

Using traditional repair materials (e.g., rapid-set concrete) to repair potholes and spalls in reinforced concrete (RC) bridge decks is time-consuming, labor intensive, and requires many tools and equipment (e.g., concrete deck saw, pneumatic hammers, air compressor, concrete mixer). This report described KTC’s effort to identify an epoxy repair material for patching concrete surfaces that eliminates the need to saw cut the deck around the pothole, remove deteriorated concrete, and install an appropriate patching material.
