Hundreds of Lee College students who are parents will not have to worry about child care expenses thanks to a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education (DOE). The Child Care Access Means Parents in School Program or CCAMPIS grant is a “game changer” for sustainable childcare services funding.

The Lee College Board of Regents represented southeast Texas and the state at the Association of Community College Trustees Leadership Congress in Las Vegas. During the conference, Regent Susan Moore-Fontenot was elected by her peers to the ACCT Board of Directors as one of only three Directors-at-Large. Read more here.

The Lee College Mendoza Debate Society is off to winning start for 2023-24 season. They argued their way to dual wins for team and individual at the 2023 Joseph J. Cardot Invitational at Abilene Christian University. The ACU tournament featured a slate of top regional programs including the host university, Texas Tech University, Southern Methodist University and Texas Christian University, among others. Stefan Tabacaru, a recent graduate of Lee College and the Honors Program, participated in a highly competitive research program at Rice University. He spent the summer studying how to make batteries more environmentally friendly. His experiments in the lab culminated in a poster he presented at Rice’s summer research conference. Stefan believes that his hands-on work at Lee College and Rice are helping him illuminate the path for his future.

Congratulations to the marketing team for winning five Medallion Awards at the American Association of Community Colleges National Council for Marketing and Public Relations District 4 Conference. Chris Coats, director of Marketing and Public Affairs and Sebastian Troitino, digital marketing manager, took home three gold medallions for television video paid ad-series, social media or online marketing campaign and video shorts-single. They also earned two bronze medallions for promotional video-short form for "How Much Can Happen in a Year?" which was played during the Fall 2022 graduation ceremony and video shorts for "Learn. Gain. Succeed." The AACC NCMPR District 4 is one of the largest m– which includes all community and two-year colleges in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming. 

The partnership between Lee College and Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District to support dual-credit students was highlighted in two national higher education publications. The articles are based on research by the Community College Research Center at Teachers College of Columbia University which examines the positive outcomes of expanding program participation to diverse student groups.
