Grant Brown of MI Joins APRx Board;

Kanak & Oglesbee Win New Terms

Michigan pharmacy owner Grant Brown, Pharm.D, (right) has been elected to a three-year term on the American Pharmacies Board of Directors. Incumbent directors Alton Kanak of Katy, Tx, and Vance Oglesbee of Fairfield, Tx, were re-elected to three-year terms. The terms of all three men will run from July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2026.

An election was held in late June in which four candidates Brown, Kanak, Oglesbee and longtime shareholder Russell Pelzel, R.Ph., of Pilot Point, TX sought three available seats on the Board, with Brown, Kanak and Oglesbee receiving the most votes.

American Pharmacies congratulates Brown, Kanak and Oglesbee on their victories and commends Russell Pelzel for a well-run campaign and for his long history of leadership in our organization.

Brown, a graduate of the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, is a third-generation pharmacist and an owner for the past 43 years. He joined American Pharmacies in 2018 and was appointed a Board advisor in 2021. His businesses include seven retail and LTC pharmacies and two HME operations in south central Michigan. He will be formally seated as a new director at the Board's September 2023 meeting.

An APRx Board member since 2008, Alton Kanak (left) is a University of Houston College of Pharmacy graduate and a member of the UH Pharmacy Dean’s Advisory Council. He served as chairman of the board from 2020 to 2022.

He started working in a chain pharmacy while attending college in Houston, and he rose over 17 years from staff pharmacist to store manager and ultimately district manager. He owns three retail pharmacies in Katy and Kirbyville, as well as a clinic pharmacy and long-term care pharmacy.

Vance Oglesbee (right) has been on the Board since 2005 and is a former chairman. He graduated from the University of Texas College of Pharmacy and is licensed to practice in Texas and Louisiana. He owns and operates three Texas pharmacies: Hometown Pharmacy in Fairfield and Corsicana, Texas, and LTC Dynamics in Fairfield. Vance co-owns ENTRX, a Life Science company committed to seeking treatments for ailments of the ears, nose, and throat.
