Greetings friends,
It's been some time since I sent a newsletter to my years-long list of friends far and wide. It's been so busy and this whole year just flew by.
A couple of weeks ago I celebrated a milestone birthday. 60 years old! It's hard to believe.
I planned a stretched-out all-day eight-hour party with 10 guests per hour. so I could really talk to each one about their lives. That was my birthday wish.
The evening before, Aryeh surprised me by presenting my longtime music partner the famous flute player George Tortorelli who flew all the way in from Florida to surprise me.
I hadn't seen him in about four years! Most of you on this newsletter list know me from our days of playing our harp and flute music for festivals all along the Southeast and the Windham Hill tours all over the country. But with the changes of technology, CDs giving way to streaming music, our 20-year run was coming to a fair and peaceful close when the pandemic hit, and like all musicians, we had to stop.
It was such a happy reunion, and of course we played our music for our guests. After all this time apart it sounded as good as ever. (photo below)
After I thought the party was over, the best party ever, I said goodbye to the final leavers. Then my friend called me down to our barn to see a barn owl, which I love when they visit. So I ran down there and that's where the big surprise was waiting. Oh my gosh ..was all I could say over and over. More special guests were there, the fake leavers were there, and Aryeh presented the surprise second party with a big screen to show a movie of my life! My darling husband had worked on it in secret for over six months going through all my boxes of memorabilia in the attic, scanning them, organizing them, interviewing old friends, and recruiting the help of many friends and fellow bandmates far and wide.
He set up a full sound system with the perfect songs and narrated/set up the various sections of the movie (over an hour long of action-packed adventures) I was laughing so hard and teary-eyed too. All my friends were riveted because they were seeing and learning a lot more about my rock and roll past and other crazy bits of life. My mom as there and Aryeh's mom too. It was a birthday I will never forget an in the top ten moments of life for sure.
Life is full of so much joy and surprise. With the backdrop of the unfathomable suffering going on in other parts of the world which I can't stop thinking and reading and hurting about. All we can do is try to be a healing molecule in the universe and keep the spirits up and heart light on wherever we can. Light and Love and human joy will always eventually one way or another, prevail.
We have been performing mostly in the northwest with driveable distances and I'm still doing lots of music work in hospitals and Oncology centers. Sharing harps in schools and senior facilities. The days are still busy but closer to home. With a homestead so big, the barn store, my mosaic studio and all the activities here, and our aging bods, we have no large or far tours on the horizon this coming year. But I will still send occasional newsletter updates and you can follow me on the social media links below as well. I will let you know if a new album comes out and you are more than welcome to reach out to me anytime.
I wish all of you and yours the finest of togetherness and discovery and well-being and beloved furry friends and all that this life has to offer..
I would love a chance to hear back from you and tell me your favorite things you have learned in your years. Thank you for staying connected to me.
Sincerely,
Lisa Lynne
