Supporting Your Practice

Clinical Integration updates: View the latest program updates including 2023 CI incentive summary, Meridian Medicaid fluctuations and more.

Medicare ACO Programs reminder: As a reminder, membership in APP for primary care physicians and APCs requires that you participate in our Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) or ACO REACH – CMS' new value-based care program focused on promoting health equity and addressing healthcare disparities for underserved communities. We have heard of several external organizations asking our primary care physicians and APCs to join their MSSP or ACO REACH programs. Since you can only participate in one MSSP or ACO REACH program, joining a non-APP program would mean you were no longer an APP member. If you have been contacted by another organization and you have questions or concerns, contact your local Value-Based Care Director.

New APP Benefit – fitness center discounts: In order to prioritize physician well-being, Advocate Fitness Centers will now be available to all APP physicians at a discounted rate. If you’re interested, contact the fitness center directly to discuss rates and arrange a tour of the facility. Learn more.

Population health outreach: We are conducting patient outreach on your behalf to support quality outcomes and close quality care gaps. Learn more.

Pharmacy & Therapeutics June updates: Review the latest Pharmacy and Therapeutics ambulatory and regional committees’ decisions. View June Summary.

New Virtual Post-COVID Recovery Program: To support you in caring for your patients experiencing symptoms of long haul COVID, we have launched a new Virtual Post COVID Recovery Program across the Midwest Region. This follows a successful pilot in North Wisconsin and expands upon our in-person COVID Recovery Programs to provide specialized care and reach more patients impacted by long haul COVID. For more information and how to refer patients, read this FAQ.

ACL Labs updates: Highlights include Rubeloa IgG, Mumps IgG and Varicella IgG testing changes. Learn more.

Illinois license renewal and education deadline: All Illinois MDs and DOs are up for renewing their license on July 31. This renewal deadline includes completing your IDFPR continuing education requirements and a three-hour opioid training requirement. Helpful links: Renew license | View CME credits received | CME requirement offerings

Free Alzheimer’s support for your patients: You can now refer patients and their families for free care planning, services and support. We’ve partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association Knight Family Dementia Care Coordination Initiative to provide training – including CEU-accredited options, customized care plans and more. View the toolkit for more information and consider using our new SmartSet in Epic to make it easier to diagnose, treat and support patients whom you suspect of having memory loss or dementia.

Pediatric Roundtable event: Learn how to improve Flu and HPV vaccination rates at the virtual pediatric roundtable event, Wednesday, July 26 at noon. Watch your email for the invite or ask your VBC Advisor for more information.

Starve a mosquito, donate blood: Sign up to donate at a blood drive at one of our Advocate sites this July.

Advancing Research – clinical stroke trial leads to FDA approval: Recently, Joshua Billingsley, MD, neurosurgeon, and team used an investigational device to successfully clear a blood clot from a stroke patient who participated in a clinical trial at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. The clinical trial led to the recent FDA approval of the device for standard use. Read news story.

Government Advocacy at Work

On your behalf, our Government Relations team advocates and lobbies for policies that positively affect your practice and patients–and helps defend against policies don’t. The recent Medicaid legislative win in Illinois includes the first Medicaid rate hike in 28 years effective Jan. 1, boosting inpatient and outpatient reimbursement by 10%. Thanks to the FY 2024 state budget package signed by Governor JB Pritzker, the new reimbursement rates will bring in $46.1M more to Advocate Health Care hospitals each year for the care of patients covered by Medicaid.

Second Edition of Connections is out!

Check out the latest CEO message, learn about our leaders and read impactful stories about our frontline teammates here. Leadership Updates

  • As we advance our Service Line integration, we are pleased to share the latest Medical Director appointments and selections.
  • Rachael Mahoney, Vice President, Neuroscience Service Line Administration for the Midwest Region, will be leaving the organization effective Sept. 1 to pursue other opportunities. Please join us in thanking Rachael for her many contributions and wishing her the best.

Epic Updates

July 12 Epic upgrade live: Reminder, view this overview for safety and efficiency enhancements slated for this upgrade and check your Epic Learning Home Dashboard for education. The next Epic upgrade is scheduled for April 10, 2024.

Important updates also implemented July 12:

  • Breast Risk Assessment: This new breast cancer risk assessment tool for primary care and Ob/Gyn is now partially automated and built into Epic. Women ages 25-45 years will receive questionnaires via LiveWell to complete prior to scheduled preventative medicine visits. You will need to act at the time of the visit to calculate their risk.
  • Well Woman Patient Questionnaire: Ob/Gyn patients will automatically receive this through their LiveWell account 10 days prior to their scheduled complete physical exam, new patient exam or consult. If a patient is receiving both the Well Woman Patient Questionnaire and Breast Risk Assessment, it will appear as one seamless questionnaire.
  • Book It Scheduling: If you schedule patients yourself in Epic, there is a significant change in the look and feel with Book It now in Epic.

Epic Update: Hospital edition: Epic upgrade education materials, new/revised Lipase reference range, range order hard stop and more.
