I hope that your semester is wrapping up smoothly. We have a number of opportunities in place designed to enrich your WashU experience, nurture professional and personal growth, and foster community connections across our diverse population. As you consider how you’ll invest your time in the new year, I do hope you will consider exploring these opportunities.

Graduate and Professional Student Representatives to the Board of Trustees - Application Opens January 2

 

Interested in serving on the WashU Board of Trustees? To be considered for the role of graduate/professional student representative to the Board of Trustees for 2024–25, you must be a full-time graduate or professional student in residence, in good academic standing, and able to make the necessary time commitment. more information.

The Bouchet Graduate Honor Society 2024 Application is Open


The Bouchet Graduate Honor Society at WashU seeks to develop a network of preeminent scholars who exemplify academic and personal excellence for those who have been traditionally underrepresented in the academy.


Students eligible for membership in the society must be a PhD student in a humanities, social sciences and sciences field and ABD status. Please visit the Bouchet Graduate Honor Society page to learn more. Applications are due January 21, 2024.

Job Search Series: Navigating the Job Search for Graduate/Professional Students

Join the Center for Career Engagement (CCE) and The Graduate Center for a workshop on navigating the job search. Learn about strategies for job searching, as well as the tools and resources available through the CCE. Please register through Handshake.

Nutcracker Holiday Party

@ Edison Theater

December 7 (5 p.m.)


Join GPC, GSS, and AGES for a Nutcracker Holiday party! We will attend a private performance of the Nutcracker and the 1904 World’s Fair by Ballet 314, a local professional ballet company, at the Edison Theatre on campus. Expect hot chocolate, light hor d’ourves, and an appearance by the Sugar Plum Fairy. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here. For more information, please contact Taylor at tnie@wustl.edu.

Looking Ahead: Spring ’24 Health and Personal Wellbeing Programming 

 

Spring ’24 Title IX Sessions: What to Know as Graduate-Professional Student: These ongoing Title IX sessions bring together resources from Gender Equity and Title IX Compliance Office (GETIXCO), Student Health Services, and the Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention Center (RSVP). Conversations will focus on resources to support graduate and professional students, especially in regards to harassment, pregnancy accommodations, study abroad, and internships. Presenters will discuss the Title IX process, where to find additional university resources, and what students can expect if they report. 

 

Conflict Resolution Series: Understanding and Transforming Conflict Dynamics: Join The Graduate Center for a thought-provoking Conflict Resolution Series catered to graduate and professional students. Don't miss this enriching opportunity to expand your conflict resolution toolkit and transform your approach to handling challenging situations.

  • February 13 (4–5:30 p.m.) Session 1: Conflict Resolution: Let’s Talk About It Embark on a transformative journey to uncover your conflict resolution tendencies in our immersive session. Learn about the five default conflict styles and delve into understanding your own and your peers' reactions in conflict situations. Through engaging group activities, discover effective methods to bridge differences and foster collaborative solutions. more information
  • February 27 (4–5:15 p.m.) Session 2: Conflict Resolution: The Drama Triangle. This session will delve into the intricate dynamics of conflict by exploring the detrimental roles individuals frequently assume—victim, hero, and oppressor – and how these roles constrain groups. Participants will learn how to opt for more constructive approaches. Embrace the opportunity to reconsider your conflict behavior and pave the way for healthier resolutions. more information

 

Spring 2024 Mindfulness Series: Koru Mindfulness is an introductory class that will teach you the skill of mindfulness. It will also help you build the habit of using it in your life on a regular basis. Attendance at all sessions is required; space is limited. More information and registration can be found here. February 14–March 6 (4–5 p.m. sessions)

Parking and Transportation Services Introduces New Shuttle Route


WashU Parking and Transportation Services launched a new Delmar Divine shuttle route, with service between the Danforth Campus, Delmar Divine and the Medical Campus. Learn more about shuttles and other parking updates.

  • Buchheit Graduate Student Family Support Fund: The Buchheit Graduate Student Family Support Fund supports graduate and professional students with exigent financial need who have dependents under their care. more information 
  • The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) Conference: The CTL, in partnership with the Office of the Provost, University Libraries, and Arts & Sciences Computing, is hosting the popular iTeach Conference on January 10, 2024. This is an opportunity to connect with faculty, students, staff, and postdocs from across the university to discover innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Register here
  • Need Tech Help? Tech Den provides technology services to the WashU student community, with a focus on graduate/professional and non-residential students.
