Heritage Oaks Homeowner Delighted With Home Repair Program

When Cat Rosevear received the letter from Habitat about the Home Repair Program she filled out the application the same day. â€śI knew I wanted to be on top of that opportunity,” says Rosevear. Hers was the first application to arrive at the Habitat office.

Rosevear, who opened her own small business in Nevada City last February, needed assistance with finishing a fence, repairing a gate, and with landscaping on the side of her home.  â€śI really needed the help,” says Cat. â€śAs a single mom and relatively new to homeownership, I didn’t know how to do these things myself, and it’s hard to find a handyman. Having the Habitat crew, people I know and trust, do the repairs was a real benefit.”

The work took two days, and Cat has a one-word description of the process and the project: â€śAmazing!”

Meet the Next Habitat for Humanity Homeowner

The City of Grass Valley has recently approved the plans for the 43rd Habitat Home. The new home, which will be the fifth in Nevada County Habitat’s Park Place neighborhood will be built on Orchard Way, and construction is expected to begin in the next few weeks.

Angela, a mother of three. is Habitat’s next future homeowner, and she is delighted with this step forward. In the last seven years, Angela has moved her family six times due to affordability and the rentals she occupied being sold. “Thanks to Habitat we will have a permanent, affordable home. “

When Angela decided to apply to Habitat’s affordable homeownership program, she was experiencing housing instability and raising three children on her own. Although Angela was not initially selected, the process of applying for Habitat homeownership was life changing. â€śEach application period I paid down more bills and became a stronger applicant. Even though I was not selected the first time, I knew that every year Habitat would be building more homes. I had faith that if I kept doing the work and showing up for my family, we would be able to own our home.”

Angela is looking forward to working on the construction site!
