For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

-Matthew 6:21-

Yesterday, I visited the final stop for our Eagle County’s finest treasures.  I didn’t have to sail through tumultuous seas and dive into the depths of the Pacific.  I didn’t need to traverse an alpine peak and fight cobwebs in a dirty cave.  I didn’t even need a rolled-up map with an “x” that marked the spot. I simply drove to the county landfill, we used to call it “the dump.”

Remarkably, this “stuff” was once a treasure in someone’s home.  To acquire these shiny objects they shopped online, strolled the aisles, saved up money, and then dumped it.  Cash, check, charge, Venmo, Apply Pay, it didn’t matter. Someone, somewhere paid big bucks for these now-discarded treasures that are carelessly dumped where it is crushed, shredded, and buried. We do the same.

Jesus offers an everlasting treasure that will never be dumped.  People tried, oh we know they tried.  Those who opposed Jesus whipped him, forced a thorny crown on his skull, and nailed him to the cross. Jesus did that for you. Jesus treasured you so much that he gave you himself. Our Lord was crushed and buried all so you wouldn’t have to be.  But this was not his final stop, No! Jesus dumped your sins, rose again, and defeated death forever so your final stop is with him.

Jesus treasured you. Where is your treasure?

Sunday we continue our sermon series titled  “first.”  I can’t wait!

Pastor Austin

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
