President's Message

by Max Duplant, CPA

TXCPA Dallas presents some super opportunities this month for you to pick up important information, as well as a few CPE credit hours. On October 17, the Business & Industry Committee presents another event in their Behind-the-Scenes Series, this time at Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. We hope you can join us for an informative talk on the world-famous hospital’s mission and the impact it has had. A tour of the facility will follow. Register for this exciting event now. On October 18, you can attend the Member Appreciation CPE Series event either live in our training facility or by Zoom. The CPE Council has assembled a great lineup of speakers on subjects such as building an advisory practice, IRS 457 and the Safeguards Rule, and the use of artificial intelligence in accounting. Register here for live or here for virtual.

If you’re interested in networking, we hope you’ll join us on October 19 for our October Thirsty Thursday. It’s a great time to make new connections and enjoy some down time with old friends. I hope you can make time in your schedule for this fun get-together.

November has been designated as TXCPA’s Month of Service and, in recognition, we have two community outreach events planned. The Autism Speaks Walk is scheduled for Saturday, November 4, at Grandscape in The Colony. Our volunteers will be walking in conjunction with the team from The Thomas Edwards Group. Come be a part and support a very worthy organization, Autism Speaks. Then on November 11, we’ll be making sandwiches for the area’s homeless at a TangoTab Feed the City event at Bowl & Barrel in the Shops at Park Lane. This is a fun, high-energy event that helps to alleviate the urgent issue of hunger in our city. We need you on our team. Sign up for both these events, and I look forward to seeing you there.

Stay up to date on our evolving slate of activities by visiting the calendar of events on our website. We have some exciting plans for the rest of the year, and we know you won’t want to miss a thing!

Don’t forget that you have only through October 6, to submit your nominations for 2024-25 TXCPA Dallas leadership positions. I want to encourage you to participate in this important aspect of your professional association membership. Help create the future of your organization by getting your nominations in to Laura McFadden by close of business tomorrow.

Until next month, I wish you a safe, healthy and productive October.

TXCPA's Month of Service is coming in November!

The Branding and Community Outreach Committee is hosting our annual Month of Service in November. During this dedicated month, TXCPA rallies the accounting profession to unite and create a positive impact in local Texas communities. This year, the timing aligns with Accounting Opportunities Month in November. While volunteering for classroom career visits is a valuable way to contribute, it's not the only option! We encourage members to give back in any way that’s meaningful – whether it’s collecting food donations for a local food bank, hosting a toy drive for underprivileged kids, volunteering at a local animal shelter or promoting financial literacy in your community.

Our goal this year is to get all 20 chapters involved in Month of Service. Watch the next newsletter for more information, ideas and resources for promoting this statewide service opportunity in your chapter.

Free CPE for Members!

Only current TXCPA members are eligible for our free CPE opportunities throughout the year. Be sure these upcoming options are on your calendar!

Big TXCPA Wins in the 2023 Legislative Session – Support the CPA-PAC and Show Your Gratitude

TXCPA accomplished two legislative wins in the 2023 legislative session. Texas accounting students are now able to begin taking the CPA Exam after completing 120 semester hours (SB 159) and more accounting scholarships will be available to students before their 5th year of accounting (HB 2217). Both bills were significant steps in addressing the shrinking CPA pipeline.

These wins could only happen with the support of the CPA-PAC and our advocates. The CPA-PAC led the way during the election season and our advocates showed up to talk to legislators. To continue our success at the Capitol and address the CPA pipeline and other important issues, your contribution to the CPA-PAC is vital! Let’s continue to improve and enhance our influence at the Capitol. Donate here.
