PROCESS PRELIMINARY DESIGN REVIEW AND
SAFETY RISK ASSESSMENTS

As our clients have begun to consider new processes for implementation or how to improve current processes, Hygieneering can aid in the design review to ensure that risk and hazard mitigation is considered during the planning phase, that the project is compliant with life safety rules for the facility, and compliant with local, state, and federal regulators. These design reviews are completed onsite, as well as remotely for clients. Some of the tasks that Hygieneering performs for these Preliminary Design Review and Safety Risk Assessments are as follows:

  • Walk through facilities to review potential facility siting constraints prior to installation.
  • Perform Process Hazard Analysis reviews with the client, their design team, and subject matter experts.
  • Provide recommendations based on the designs reviewed, as well as the final goal of the process.
  • Participate as a team member to guide the discussion between key stakeholders in a productive manner.

As each project complexity varies, Hygieneering assists in identifying action items to ensure compliance, recognize hazards and risks prior to project implementation, and make recommendations for opportunities for improvement.

Fire Department Hazmat Training
Last month, Hygieneering hosted the local Fire Department's Hazmat team training. The class was led by Paul Ruesch, US EPA Onsite Emergency Coordinator. In addition to training, the team discussed the recent Chemtool fire and the environmental impact that occurred. It was an informative and beneficial day for our local heroes.
The Healthy Building Institute
Air Ionization Program
The Healthy Building Institute, a division of Hygieneering that focuses on providing expert Indoor Environmental Health and Safety Compliance Services has launched a new Air Ionization Technology Program. This air cleaning technology is supported through a building’s HVAC system or through portable Bipolar Ionization air cleaners that generate positively and negatively charged Ion particles. The Ion particles produced work to gather and cluster airborne particles making them easier to drop out of the air or get captured within a building’s HVAC filtration system.

Through accredited laboratory testing results Bipolar Air Ionization Technology has also proven to cause chemical reactions to reduce VOCs, odors and kill certain viruses such as SARS-2-CoV. Therefore, Bipolar Air Ionization Technology continues to emerge as an effective air cleaning technology to support safe and healthy indoor environments.

"The ions produce a chemical reaction on the cell membrane surface that inactivates the virus," Philip Tierno, a clinical professor of microbiology and pathology at the NYU School of Medicine, told Business Insider. "It can reduce 99.9% of microbes in a matter of minutes."

US Department of Labor announces enforcement, effort for focused inspections in hospitals, nursing care facilities treating COVID-19 patients
For two years, millions of the nation’s healthcare workers have been battling the coronavirus. Many have endangered themselves as they care for those who contract COVID-19 while working in high-risk settings that expose themselves and their families.

As the nation moves to the next phase of the pandemic, the U.S. Department of Labor recognizes the need to prepare for any new variants that may emerge and provide healthcare workers the protections they deserve.

The Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration today announced an enforcement memorandum for a short-term increase in highly focused inspections directed at hospitals and skilled nursing care facilities that treat or handle COVID-19 patients.
