NOTES
TRIMESTER REPORTS
Teachers have been working throughout the Thanksgiving vacation and the subsequent snow days on their assessments and reports about students in the first trimester. Those reports will be sent home today and tomorrow: in boomerang folders for K-5th graders and by postal mail for 6-8th graders. As always, please reach out to teachers if you have any questions, comments, or concerns to share.
HOLIDAY MEALS FOR TEACHERS
If you are inspired to present your child(ren)'s teacher(s) with a gift this season, instead of purchasing something, please join in the PAG's tradition of providing breakfast, lunch, and leftovers for all our staff during the final week of school in December. If you don't want to cook and your schedule allows, you can help by setting-up/cleaning-up a meal.

PAG Leader Molly Moghari (3rd grader Bryn, 5th grader Emmet, 8th grader Kellan) has set up a Meal Train to facilitate sign ups. We are feeding 22 people, so it takes a village to pull this off and we encourage everyone to sign up for a slot. Dietary restrictions and specifications are listed next to each meal. Thank you so much for your contribution - Riverside faculty & staff look forward to this every year! If you have any questions please reach out to Molly.
STUDENT COUNCIL EVENTS
The Student Council is planning two events this month:
  • 1-8th grade Cocoa Sale to benefit PE Equipment this Thursday at lunchtime. The cost will be $2 for cocoa plus 50 cents per topping (whipped cream, marshmallow, and candy cane). Please send your elementary student with money and their order noted in their boomerang folder by Thursday. There will also be a baked goods available as well for 6-8th graders, items will cost $1; middle schoolers can bring their own money.
  • K-8 Movie Night on Friday, December 15. We'll show a G/PG movie at 5:00 and a PG-13 movie at 7:00 (titles will be in next week's Memo). There will be adult chaperones (Nelia, Nathan, a couple parent volunteers, please email Nelia if you can help), parents are welcome to drop off students of all ages. Admission is free, and snacks will be sold. Funds raised from snacks will be donated to a charity to be announced in next week's Memo. Bring your own blankets and pillows; pajamas are encouraged. Please plan to pick up students at 6:45 pm or 8:45 pm.
ICE SKATING
On Friday Terra, Aqua, Ignis will go ice-skating; Caelum will be at gymnastics. Parents and siblings are always encouraged to join us at the rink, come skate! Please pick up at those locations at 3:15 on Friday.

Mark your calendar for future Fridays:
  • Dec. 15: all 6-8th graders skating, K-5th graders on campus
MYTHOLOGY DAY
Wednesday, December 20 will be our annual Mythology Day celebration. It is the half day before the holiday vacation, and so early dismissal will be at 12:30 for all PK-8th graders at Riverside.

During the weeks leading up to Mythology Day, students will be studying myths, folktales, and characters of lore. Some will be presenting what they've learned about those figures during assemblies the days prior to Mythology Day, stay tuned for more details about that. That Wednesday before vacation we will have a special schedule for the whole school, with students rotating by house through a variety of activities led by the 8th graders.

At the end of the day all K-8th graders will participate in the "Urn of Fate," a classically themed gift-exchange. Each student should bring in a simple, wrapped gift (a guideline for the value being $5 or less), by Tuesday the 19th and give them to Jamie (K-2nd grade gifts), Hanna (3rd-5th gifts), or Nathan (6th-8th gifts). This year we will continue exchanging gifts in these groups, so you can find something attractive for a student of similar age: K-2nd, 3rd-5th, and 6th-8th.
LOWER FIELD RINK?
Sean would like to try to construct an ice rink in our lower field this winter. If anyone in the community has experience or materials to share for this project, please reach out to him!

ANNUAL APPEAL
We are sincerely grateful for the numerous ways in which Riverside Families contribute to the health of our school. As you've read in previous Memos, we rely on the current parent community to organize fundraisers to help bridge the gap between tuition and expenses. We notice and appreciate the hours of time and expertise that all parents give in their work on committees, baking, volunteering, substitute teaching, chaperoning, gardening, painting, and more.

Our other key strategy in raising the income we need is our Annual Fund, an appeal for which goes out to almost everyone we know. While we'd like you to consider the size of your gift as it relates to the difference Riverside makes in your lives and your other philanthropy, what matters most is simply your participation. There is no gift that is too small. If you haven't already, please consider making a gift to Riverside today.
