A Message from our VP

Colleagues–

It is hard to believe Homecoming and Armstrong Spirit Week are nearly here.  This semester is moving quickly!  How will you show your GS pride this month during Spirit Week and Homecoming?  I encourage everyone to check out the parade, this year a part of the Kiwanis Fair Parade on Monday, October 16.  You are encouraged to watch the parade at the Statesboro Visitors’ Center on Main Street.  I recommend that you are in place to watch before 4:30pm that day.  While offices need to be covered until 5pm, I encourage directors to work together to coordinate staffing so those who wish to attend the parade can leave their offices by 4pm and head downtown.  If you have questions, let your associate vice president or me know!

Alison Gould is working on the final touches to our Division of Student Affairs Strategic Plan and I hope to share it with you very soon!  Again, many thanks to the Strategic Planning Committee, Dr. Aileen Dowell, Dr. John Banter, and Ms. Erin McFerrin for their work over several years on this plan.  Their leadership and everyone’s input outlines a bold vision for the future of the Division with pillars including Students First, Inclusive Excellence, Employee Engagement & Operational Efficiency, and Community Impact.  More details coming soon!

For the past month, the Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT) has been working on budget proposals for FY 2025.  Later this month, I will share the culmination of that work with the cabinet for discussions about FY 2025.  Georgia Southern is expecting a formula reduction in state allocations due to enrollment declines.  I will share the final division proposal with SALT and keep them updated on our discussions; look to hear more information on the FY 2025 budget from SALT in your department meetings.

Look for more information in this newsletter for a panel discussion with Division leaders on Monday, October 2 at 12pm in a collaboration with the College of Education.  I also will be sharing information on this fall’s Little Convos where Ale Sosa Pieroni will join me for a discussion about the GS strategic enrollment plan and the role that Student Affairs will play in that plan.

Happy October!  Enjoy some fall flavored beverages and treats, cherish the cooler weather, and take advantage of your ARC and RAC access for your own well being.  Thanks for all you do to make our GS community a True Blue, engaging one!  GATA.

Hail Southern,
