Additional points
1. SB 10 poses a significant threat to the preservation of historic buildings by encouraging demolishing or altering structures. It is a threat to citywide architectural integrity. Without the full exemption as it had been proposed, SB 10 will result in the destruction or alteration of San Diegos historic architectural background that contributes to the unique character and charm of our city’s-built landscape. Maintain the exemption for historic resources and districts as originally proposed.
2. Most of these historic areas are where the middle-class housing is in San Diego. We need to keep it affordable, SB 10 drives up all the land prices making homeownership impossible. In effect crushing the American dream of building generational wealth for all peoples. Maintain the exemption for historic resources and districts as originally proposed.
3. The best way to provide affordable housing is to keep people in their homes. Maintain the exemption for historic resources and districts as originally proposed.
4. SB 10 diminishes the voice of local communities by limiting the ability to participate in decisions regarding the fate of our own neighborhoods and communities. The proposed changes have sparked citywide public outcry, with concerned citizens expressing their desire to protect and preserve our city's historic assets. These voices should not be ignored by this board. SB 10 undermines community input. Maintain the exemption for historic resources and districts as originally proposed.
5. There will be a negative impact on cultural heritage citywide if SB 10 is enacted without the exemption for historic resources and districts. Without the full exemption SB10 will erase San Diego's cultural heritage sites, depriving future generations of a tangible connection to their community's past. Maintain the exemption for historic resources and districts as originally proposed.
6. Preservation aligns with sustainable development principles by promoting reuse and minimizing waste. SB 10 disregards the increased environmental impact and loss of embodied energy. Maintain the exemption for historic resources and districts as originally proposed.
7. The enactment of SB 10 as proposed would result in the irreversible loss historical treasures, erasing our heritage and robbing future generations of the opportunity to appreciate and learn from these invaluable and irreplaceable assets. Maintain the exemption for historic resources and districts as originally proposed.
8. As proposed SB10 displays a blatant disregard for the values and wishes of our community. With complete disregard for community values. Maintain the exemption for historic resources and districts as originally proposed.
9. The proposed changes in SB 10 erodes public trust in the decision-making process, as it dismisses the concerns and opinions of the very people who have a vested interest in preserving our city's cultural and architectural heritage. Maintain the exemption for historic resources and districts as originally proposed.
10. Each community plan update took years of city staff and public and planning time. The proposed historic districts that resulted from the process will be lost, along with all the years of work and investment. Maintain the exemption for historic resources and districts as originally proposed.
