TL&LC Celebrates Successes and New Beginnings!
The Rotary Club of Highlands recently welcomed Bonnie Potts, Executive Director of the Literacy & Learning Center, as a guest speaker.
New Pre-K Program Begins Soon!
The presentation focused on two exciting developments at TL&LC. First, the highly anticipated Pre-K program is starting this fall! The organization is thrilled to have Carolyn Middlebrooks, a seasoned early childhood educator with 30 years of experience, leading the program as Pre-K Director. Many parents in the community already know Carolyn from her popular "Tinker Time for Tots" program at The Literacy & Learning Center, which provided valuable learning tips for parents and preschoolers.

On July 17, we were thrilled to welcome Amy Cooper from Mountain Findings. She stopped by TL&LC to deliver funds from a generous grant they awarded to our organization. This grant is a testament to Mountain Findings' ongoing support of our programs, and we are incredibly grateful for their continued partnership. As a non-profit organization, TL&LC depends on the generosity of donors like Mountain Findings to ensure we can continue to provide vital services to our community. This grant will be instrumental in the continuation of our programs. | |

Lisa Richards, TL&LC's board secretary, shares:
When I retired in 2012, a dear friend in Highlands suggested that I volunteer at the Literacy Council (now The Literacy & Learning Center). Although I have no background in teaching, she knew I love children and thought it would be a good fit for me. I soon realized that most children we worked with struggled with reading. I also learned that if a child isn't a competent reader by 4th grade, the long-term outcome for their success is limited. I was inspired by the fact that I could make a difference by showing up every week to work with my students, helping increase their competence and confidence in reading.
My passion for these children continues as I serve on the Board and encourage all my friends to become involved in just one child's life. It changes your life, too!
Thank you, Lisa!
