SANCTUARY TECHNOLOGY & FIRE ALARM CHALLENGES

At the end of August, SAKLC took a direct lightning hit. We are fortunate that our lightning suppression system prevented a fire, and that our surge protectors on the main breaker boxes prevented the worst. Unfortunately, though, smaller surges did get through our system resulting in damages to some of our internet equipment, our sanctuary technology, and church fire alarm system.

Our internet provider made repairs quickly to the internet hardware that was taken down, and ADT handled the necessary repairs to our remote doorbell system.

Unfortunately, the technology in our Sanctuary sustained damages to some of the critical components including cameras, switchers, soundboards, speaker processors, etc. Luckily, a local technology company stepped in right away to help. The fixes are not quick. The first challenge was to actually identify the problems -- whether the damage was to equipment, or with connections, or within the fiber optic cables running through the space. New equipment did have to be ordered, and this takes time to get in and installed. Additionally, we have been working with a transition in AV operators.

We realize there have been major problems over the past weeks with the sound in our sanctuary and with our live streaming. We sincerely apologize for this. Please know we are working as hard as possible to remedy these issues. It is our hope that the majority of the systems will be up-and-running this coming weekend.

In addition to this, our fire alarm (several decades old) was irreparably damaged by the lightning strike. While we believe we may be able to make a temporary fix, the system will need to be replaced soon. When this happens, the entire building will need to be brought up to current codes. This will be costly, but necessary. Our Property Committee has been working diligently with several vendors to get quotes on these replacements.

Sincere thanks for your continuing patience with us as we work to make these critical, complex repairs.

NOURISH TO FLOURISH was a HIT with 2nd Chance Last Opportunity and School House Link/Safe Children Coalition receiving the nonperishable items. Pastor Ken prayed over the food and the health of the recipients on Sunday, 9/24. Dr. April Glasco, at Second Chance Last Opportunity helped unload the food along with many volunteers. She said they ran out of food the week before and that SAKLC’s kindness showed an overabundance of love and grace to the community and at time when many people are in most need.

Matthew 21:33-46 (Isaiah 5:1-7, Psalm 80:7-15, Philippians 3:4b-14) - St. Armands Key Lutheran Church

What a difference a few wee words can make. The first two words are the Hebrew ben and eben. The former means 'son' and the latter, 'stone.' And so, when Jesus quotes Psalm 118: 22-23 he is pointing to himself, the Son: "The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord's doing, and it is amazing in our eyes" (quoted in Matthew 21:42).
