Improving our site lines

What a way to kick off the New Year with the January 11 launch of CIFST's new website !

Our completely redesigned site is dynamic, exciting and informative, and represents a framework that we can now build upon to add member benefits and enhance our ability to transfer knowledge. I would like to take a moment to give a special thanks to our National office and the folks at Essentient Association Management for bringing the new site to fruition.

As you're probably aware, we are currently in full CIFST membership renewal mode. If you haven't already done so, please visit the website to renew your membership for 2018 (see link in Bits & Bites below). I promise this will be an exciting year as our new member benefits start to roll out. Meanwhile, anyone interested in volunteering to be part of our annual Membership Renewal Drive can contact Milana Abramovich from Flavorcan International who is leading the charge. It’s a great opportunity to network with our membership base.

In other news, our Technical Program Committee will soon be releasing a list of presenters for all of the sessions at our 2018 National Conference. Stay tuned to the website for updates. Our program this year will reflect emerging innovations in the area of food and health to meet some of the major trends driving product development and research in Canada.

For those in or travelling to British Columbia , Ontario or Quebec in the next few months, make sure you check out some of the upcoming Section events listed below including two BCFT events taking place next month. BCFT's Speakers' Night will be held on February 6 while their Suppliers' Night will take place later in the month on February 28. Check out the CIFST website or click the links before for further details.

It’s going to be a really exciting next quarter, so stay tuned!

Warm regards,

Dr. Michael Nickerson

BITS & BITES
Manitoba Student Career Night

Congratulations to University of Manitoba students Pamela Drawbridge , Janelle Courcelles , Tasneem Vahora and Min Lu on the organization of Manitoba Section's recent Student Career Night .

The successful event drew 30 students and 12 mentors and featured an informative presentation by Kristen Matwychuk , Discovery Centre Coordinator for the University of Manitoba's Farm & Food Discovery Centre .

Students in attendance had an opportunity to learn about food sector career choices and planning as well as get resume-building tips from industry established industry professionals. The highlight of the night was a 'speed resume' activity where students got to speak briefly one-on-one with mentors.
