Promoting Breast Cancer Awareness

Survivors Share Stories

Thank you to Emily Pacer (left) and Joslyn McArdle (right) for sharing your breast cancer survival stories with our students Wednesday morning.

It was also our pleasure, courtesy of Director of Institutional Advancement Kristin Vivian to present ToLife! Executive Director Eileen Howe Bird with a check for $1500 with the money raised from this year's AHN Golf Classic.

Students Selling Shoelaces

You'll be seeing a lot of pink on campus this month! Coach Waddingham designed special "Panthers Wear Pink" shirts for faculty, staff, and students. Student Council is also selling pink shoelaces to raise money for breast cancer research. Students can wear them all throughout October.

Making Strides Walk

AHN and Christian Brothers Academy are teaming up to fight breast cancer! Together we'll be participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Albany, NY Walk in Washington Park this Sunday, and there is still time for you to help out by joining our team or making a donation.

Panthers Update

For the first time in a decade, Academy of the Holy Names was home to a cross country meet. We couldn't have asked for better conditions, and we can proudly say AHN won the dual meet versus Schalmont and Cobleskill, led by Julia Viglucci's first place finish.

Thanks to all who came out to support Holy Names volleyball's Dig Pink game to promote breast cancer awareness! The gym was decked out in pink, and concession sales will be donated to help fund research. Varsity soccer will follow suit on Friday afternoon with its own pink game. On Thursday, all three volleyball squads (modified, JV, and varsity) were victorious at home versus Ichabod Crane.

It was also senior week for several of our teams, as tennis, cross country, golf, and swim all took time to celebrate their senior athletes.

AHN Athletics Schedule

Wilbur to Depart AHN, Join Albany Diocese

Gregg Wilbur, AHN’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), will be leaving the school in November. Gregg has served the school with intelligence, clarity, humor, and faith for more than two years.

Truly a servant of the Church, Deacon Gregg is taking on the role of CFO for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany.

Gregg’s contributions to our community cannot be understated and we will miss him dearly. The search for a new CFO will begin immediately.

Middle School Pin Ceremony

Congratulations to the class of 2028 for receiving your pins this week!

The large group (more than three dozen in all) of eighth graders, led by Mrs. Eller completed the annual tradition signifying their new role as leaders of the Middle School.

Strategic Plan Survey

Strategic Plan Survey for AHN Community Members

Earlier this week, we announced via email to the AHN community the launch of our Strategic Planning project: AHN2030.

AHN2030 will make our great school even better with your input into our future direction. We have retained the services of Carney, Sandoe & Associates, a leading firm providing consulting services to fine independent schools, to assist in our project.

All members of the AHN community can submit their views on the future of Holy Names via the online survey through October 18. Thank you in advance for your input!

Spirit Week Next Week

Next week, we are going to light it up here at AHN for Spirit Week!

On Tuesday, students can wear their favorite AHN swag with their uniform skirt/pants and crazy socks!

Thursdays is dress down day with a pink shirt (students are encouraged to bring a donation for breast cancer research).

For Friday's pep rally, it's neon time! Seniors wear pink, juniors wear orange, sophomores wear yellow, first-years wear green, and it's blue for the middle school.

Feast of Mother Marie Rose

Today (Friday) marks the liturgical feast of Mother Marie Rose Durocher, the foundress of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM) as she was born on October 6, and subsequently died 38 years later, also on October 6. Students participated in a special prayer service to learn more about her legacy and the SNJM family of schools.

In the spirit of Mother Marie Rose, the Legacy Society was created to honor those who make a legacy gift through estate planning and bequests. These thoughtful gifts continue to honor the life of the donor and serve the mission of Holy Names. If you have included AHN in a bequest, made another type of planned gift to benefit the future of Holy Names, or would like to learn more, please contact Kristin Vivian, Director of Institutional Advancement.

Rear Admiral to Address Students

Rear Admiral Nancy Lacore '86, Commandant of the Naval District of Washington, D.C., will address students of Academy of the Holy Names on Friday, October 20.

Members of the class of 1986 are welcome to attend this special event, which is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in The Riley Auditorium.
