INTERGENERATIONAL VBS

Last week, 115 friends from FBC, weekday preschool, and Welcome House gathered in our building for a wonderful week of intergenerational VBS. Bob Talley, photographer extraordinaire, is responsible for the amazing photos below, and they’re just a smidgeon of the incredible moments he captured during the week!

The pictures below are an attempt to represent each self-contained preschool class, each grade-school and youth/adult Bible study class, and each of our ten electives. It was a week of both studying Biblical examples of building community as well as practicing being a community for one another and our community beyond the walls of this building. We collected an entire bin full of children’s underwear for Caring Connections, and we had several electives where we made things to give to families who will be moving into Habitat for Humanity homes this fall. Examples of some of the things we made for Habitat families are displayed in the cabinet in the Lewis Lobby!

I’m so grateful for each of our participants and the wide range of ages represented in our intergenerational VBS this summer. And I’m beyond grateful for the village of committed preschool leaders, Bible study teachers, and elective leaders that made this such a fun week for everyone involved! May we continue to strive to build community inside and outside our church walls! - Lynn Lingafelt

END-OF-SUMMER

CHILDREN'S POOL PARTY

Come beat the heat with a pizza and pool party as we kick off a new year of Sunday School and Missions & Music! All our preschoolers and grade-schoolers and their families are invited to join us on Thursday, August 22, from 57:30pm at the Lakepark Swim Club (6333 Lakeland Dr, Raleigh). The cost is $15/family to help cover cost of our supper and pool fee. We’ll pause for pizza (and an easy veggie, fruit, and dessert) around 6pm and then keep swimming until 7:30pm! Come when you can and stay as long as you can! Please RSVP to Lynn by August 18.

KEEP THE DONATIONS COMING!

Earlier this summer, the clothing ministry identified an urgent need for men's and children's clothing and you responded! Thank you so much to all who have helped increase our inventory in order to serve our guests through the summer. We couldn't have done it without you!

We will continue to collect and offer spring/summer clothing to our guests through the beginning of September and/or until we transition to cooler weather, as our supplies allow. So keep those donations coming (especially for children's and men's clothing). Our sorters would appreciate your help in holding any winter donations until after Labor Day, as our storage spaces are very limited. Thank you so much for the continued support of this ministry! If you have any questions, you may contact Sabrina Tyndall.

THIRTY-NINERS' OUTING CANCELED

The Thirty-Niners' lunch scheduled for this Thursday, August 8 at the Meadow restaurant in Benson has been canceled due to incoming weather from Tropical Storm Debbie.

HOT OFF THE PRESS

Our new church directories are hot off the press and are available for pick-up in the Lewis Lobby on Sundays and at the reception desk in the church office during the week. To cover the cost of printing, a suggested donation of $10 per directory would be greatly appreciated. You may contribute that amount in cash or electronically via the church website. Thank you to Bob Talley for his amazing photography skills that truly captured the spirit of every family pictured. Another special thank you to Diane Ellis for all her work organizing and bringing this project to life!

If you would prefer a free, digital copy of the church directory we encourage you to register for ACCESS ACS, our church database software. With ACCESS ACS, members can find the most up-to-date contact information for fellow members, as well as other limited information. Please note that when you are searching for fellow parishioners, in order to see photos, you will need to be in the "View a Family Directory" option. You cannot see photos under the "View an Individual Directory" option. You may suggest corrections to ACS information by emailing Jennie Herrick

To register, go to fbcraleigh.org/church-directory and click on the ACS Registration button. You will need to supply a first name, last name, and email address that matches the information we have in our ACS database. Once you have your ACCESS ACS account established you may sign in when you click “ACS Login” on the above link. If you are unable to create your account, please email Wayne Hager and he will assist you.

Corrections to the directory: We mistakenly misspelled the name of Ike Uzoma, of our Food Service Staff, in the new directory. Also, in the photo section, the names of Steve and Julie Woodson's sons were left off: Will and Drew. Our apologies to Ike and the Woodsons. Please make these corrections.

YOUTH END OF

SUMMER SCHEDULE

There is still a lot of action around FBC for the youth this summer! Students, parents, and leaders, please check in on our Slack Channel for the most updated information on what we have going on this summer and beyond!

BWIM DOCUMENTARY SCREENING & POTLUCK DINNER

We are thrilled to announce an FBC screening of Baptist Women in Ministry's newly released documentary Midwives of a Movement. This powerful documentary delves into the inspiring journeys of women who fearlessly spearheaded a movement advocating for increased visibility and empowerment of women within the SBC during the tumultuous 1970s and 1980s. Undeterred by formidable challenges, these trailblazers exhibited remarkable bravery, carving out new paths for the progression of women in ministry and leadership roles within the Baptist community, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to shape the landscape even after four decades.

Mark your calendar and join us on Sunday, August 11, from 5:308pm in our fellowship hall. We'll have a potluck dinner followed by a screening of the documentary, and a Q&A with BWIM's Executive Director, Dr. Meredith Stone. Troy Dye will be serving up some delicious baked chicken, but we'll need side dishes and desserts from you! Sign up to bring a dish for the potluck dinner here! For questions, email Leah.
