Investing in our Teaching and Learning Community:

BBCS’s Resident Teacher Program & Beyond

Our teachers are the face of our JAGUAR Values.

Bridge is proud to implement our Resident Teacher Program for the first time this year!

Resident Teacher Program: The "What"

Our Resident Teacher Program invests into our current Associate Teachers, ABAs, and Academic Tutors. Those committed to the field of education, our Bridge community, and our students are prepared through our Resident Teacher Program to become future Bridge Boston Lead Teachers. We are ensuring our program will appeal to our diverse, internal crowd, and nurture our staff’s interest.

Resident Teacher Program: The "How"

The bulk of our Resident Teaching Program is intentional, individualized, 1 on 1 coaching. Our Deans of Coaching and Intervention (DCI), in addition to a handful of other experienced administrators, work with our resident teachers to ensure they are providing the highest levels of student support and success in their classrooms. DCI staff observe and provide immediate feedback so Resident Teachers can implement new strategies right away.

Resident Teacher Program: The "Why"

Here at BBCS we are committing to assist & support our staff overcoming career growth barriers in the education field. We do this by way of professional learning. Currently, we're focused on developing multiple lead teacher prep pathway programs for Bridge staff members, including the Resident Teacher Program. This program speaks to our desire to diversify, uplift and totally equip student-facing staff members to be more effective and influential teachers.

By uplifting our current teachers in this way, we are prioritizing staff retention, and therefore creating greater stability in our community for our students. While statistics show teachers are leaving the profession by the droves--Bridge has chosen to respond with objective ways to support our staff in their teaching so they not only stay but THRIVE.

Candyss Woodberry, Director of Professional Learning

"We see the Resident Teacher program as an extension of our full-service school model. Prioritizing teacher growth and support creates wins for Bridge in every way possible. Truly, everyone wins when we are able to recruit, coach, develop and keep game changing teachers in the classroom who produce better student outcomes. Such investment speaks to the promise of our mission and vision. Again I say, everyone wins."

A second major way Bridge invests in the long-term professional success of our educators is through High Res Skill Clinics. High Res equips teachers with specific tools that help maximize effective student feedback.

No matter their incoming skill set, all teachers begin High Res with the same action step. Staff gathers each week to support teachers in their learning. Through High Res, teachers practice teaching and receive immediate feedback and specific strategies to implement in their classrooms.

At the beginning of September, 95% of staff “agreed” or “strongly agreed” that their High Res Skill Clinic was helpful in preparing for the start of the school year.
