Reimagining the Past for a Vibrant Future

This project is a long-term and visionary project for the Town of Basalt. It is designed to boost vitality on Midland Avenue, enhance economic development opportunities, build resiliency into crucial infrastructure, improve pedestrian access throughout town, and connect the newly renovated Basalt River Park to historic downtown. The Midland Avenue Streetscape project was approved by the voters to improve aging infrastructure and beautify downtown Basalt.

The project team and Town of Basalt leadership are working diligently and consciously to create a downtown that becomes an attractive destination for decades to come because of the investment everyone is making today.  The vitality the new design brings, and the adaptability and modernization of the infrastructure are crucial to the town’s economic sustainability and growth into the future.  Thank you for being a part of this journey that is designed to honor the town’s past as a railroad hub and the future as a destination that is known for its nod to history and visionary placemaking that invites people to visit and linger. 

Phase 1 of Midland Streetscape Begins March 20

The much-anticipated Midland Streetscape Project is breaking ground on March 20 and the first phase of constructions will take place on the Midland Spur.  This portion of the construction represents 30% of the entirety of the project and is isolated to the Midland Spur portion of downtown.

This information sheet contains relevant details about the project including where you can park during construction, work hours, impacts, and more.  

Phase 2 of Midland Streetscape 

The project team is continuing to value engineer the final product to have an expeditious construction schedule in the heart of downtown Basalt.  We will have more information for you in the coming weeks about the Phase 2 project schedule, including information on parking.

The anticipated start of Phase 2 is late May/early June.  This phase covers Midland Avenue from Midland Mall/Alpine Bank to Xin Yu Massage/Aspen Snowmass Sotheby’s International.  Phase 2 is anticipated to run through the fall.

During Phase 2 all businesses and residents along Midland Avenue will have pedestrian access to their front doors.  There will be one lane of traffic on Midland Avenue with flaggers controlling the direction of traffic.  Again, we will have more information in the coming weeks.

Basalt Sanitation District Sewer Line Project

We want to thank the community for your patience during the sewer line project.  Although this was not a Town of Basalt project, we recognize it was a disruption to access to downtown and are grateful for our residents, businesses and visitors who make Basalt an incredible place to work and live.
