Programs for your classroom:

The PA Civics Coalition sponsored its annual "State of Civics Education in Pennsylvania" virtual event last week, welcoming new PA Secretary of Education Khalid Mumin to join us to discuss his vision for how civics can create prepared, well-rounded students.

Dr. Mumin (starting at the 5:54 mark) was part of a 90-minute program that also included research on testing methods (13:23), a teacher roundtable (32:11), civics in the community (51:22), and suggestions from Julia Kaufman at the RAND Corporation for how to combat the overall decline in civics proficiency in students today (1:15:18).

The PA Youth Vote Mock Election is open for students

Teachers across the state are invited to have their students participate in our Mock Election. Built using the actual local candidates that your students would see on their own precinct's ballot, it is designed to give students the chance to practice casting their vote. It is great practice for when they turn 18.

In early October, C70 will send teachers who sign up a toolkit that contains customized printable or digital ballots, instructions on reporting votes, and other tools. Teachers can run their elections anytime before Election Day.

Sign up to interview a candidate or elected official

Teachers can also request an interview for their class with a candidate who is running for political office. Our team work to connect them with candidates from both major parties. This allows students to hear directly from their representatives, on issues that they care about. See our playlist of interviews from the 2023 primary election in Philadelphia.

Resources from the LWV, including judicial races

C70 has worked closely with the League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh on a number of projects; they are excited to share new videos they have produced for the upcoming election.

They are working to make sure that all students and voters are aware that the municipal elections that happen in odd-numbered years are extremely important. This year, there are also numerous judicial races being decided on the local and state levels.
