SPARTAN SPOTLIGHTS

STUDENTS, FACULTY REMEMBER DECEASED LOVED ONES, SPARTANS ON ALL SOULS' DAY

Today, as we commemorate all the faithful departed on All Souls' Day, Immaculata students gathered for Mass and to pray the rosary for the repose of the souls of departed loved ones and fellow Spartans.

Similarly, on Sunday, February 25 at 1:00 pm, Spartans of all generations are invited to gather in the Immaculata High School gymnasium to remember our departed Spartans at our 20th annual Spartan Memorial Mass.

Please join us today in praying, in a special way, for our departed Spartans: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

If you know of a Spartan alumnus or faculty member who has passed away, and who is not already included on our list of deceased, please email: [email protected].

ADMISSION EVENTS FUEL INTEREST IN IMMACULATA HIGH SCHOOL

With Immaculata's fall Open Houses now passed, all 8th-grade students interested in applying for admission are encouraged to take the High School Placement Test this month, which helps to determine future course placement, merit-based scholarships, and entrance into academic programs like Marian Scholars.

Interested students are also encouraged to experience what it’s like to be an Immaculata Spartan through our Spartan for a Day program, where they can explore all Immaculata has to offer alongside one of our current students with similar interests. This opportunity is open to all 8th graders and will be open to both 7th & 8th graders beginning in January 2024.

Of course, we also count on YOU to help us spread the word by sharing your life-changing experiences from your time at Immaculata with family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors.

CHRISTMAS TREES TO SPREAD LIGHT OF CHRIST

The Church of the Immaculate Conception, together with Immaculata High School and Immaculate Conception School, will once again illuminate hundreds of Christmas trees during the Advent and Christmas seasons. This year, their light will continue down Mountain Ave., with illuminated trees also lining the front of Immaculata High School. All are invited to sponsor a Christmas tree in memory of a loved one or departed Spartan, or to simply share Christmas wishes.

Adorned with white lights, these freshly cut trees will also include a placard that can be customized to include the name of a loved one, a wish for Christmas blessings, or simply a message of gratitude. The trees will be blessed at 5:00 pm on Sunday, December 10, after the Church of the Immaculate Conception’s Advent Lessons and Christmas Carols, and will remain illuminated each night until Saturday, January 6, the traditional date of the Solemnity of the Epiphany, which marks the arrival of visitors, identified in Scripture as the magi, to the place where Jesus was born.

PHOTO OF THE MONTH

A TRUE COMING HOME: More than 100 alumni participated in Immaculata’s first-ever Spartan Alumni Band on October 13, as part of the school’s Homecoming festivities. Featuring music throughout the decades, Spartans past and present came together to perform this wonderful tribute to Immaculata's historic marching band shows and serve as a testament to the lasting impact of an Immaculata education.

This month's Spartan Advance was curated by Rich Rau IHS '89, Director of Advancement; Tara Smith IHS '06, Director of Marketing and Communications; Michele Blandino, Director of Admissions; Stacey Mezzacca Geary IHS '91, Marketing and Communications Assistant; and Sue Beardsley, Advancement Assistant. Have an idea or news you think should be shared in the Spartan Advance?
