  • Building rapport and cultivating enthusiasm with the children.
  • Assisting children in developing their reading and writing skills to reach grade-level expectations.

Brittany Steiger

Brittany Steiger is joining the Center for Service-Learning and Social Action as a new Graduate Assistant for this upcoming year. Brittany graduated from Miami University in 2011 with a major in middle childhood education. For the past 12 years she has been teaching students ranging from fourth grade through eighth grade primarily in English language arts. After years of working with students and promoting social and emotional growth, she decided to switch gears and is currently pursuing her masters in clinical mental health counseling.

Brittany had participated in the America Reads program in her undergrad experience, a program similar to the Carroll Reads program that connects undergraduate students with local students in tutoring opportunities. She continues to have a passion for this work, and she is excited to work with students here at John Carroll and support them through the service-learning experiences that CSSA has to offer.

Mary Frances Allen

Mary Frances is joining the Center for Service-Learning and Social Action as a new Graduate Assistant for this upcoming year. She is a John Carroll University 2023 spring alumna who graduated with a major in child and family studies psychology. Mary Frances had a wonderful experience in undergrad taking in all the amazing opportunities JCU had to offer. She loved being immersed in the John Carroll community through work with groups such as CSDI, the psychology department, and participating in service with CSSA’s Carroll Reads literacy program!

This fall Mary Frances is starting her Clinical Mental Health Masters degree at JCU. She is looking forward to supporting undergrad students and the office of CSSA with the mission of service and social justice!
