Observations and Celebrations in July

The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day or July 4th has been celebrated since the 18th century and the American Revolution. According to History.com it became a federal holiday in 1941. From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades, and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues. Learn more about the history here.

Disability Act Anniversary - CIE San Diego is proud to support the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) 33rd Anniversary. On July 26th we celebrate this important civil rights law that works to ensure all people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. Celebrate with us by visiting and sharing the amazing resources provided on their website here. Learn more about the ADA here.

FEATURED PROGRAMS

Cool Zone Program

Offers free, air-conditioned settings (such as libraries or community centers) across the region offering respite for older adults, persons with disabilities, or anyone looking to escape the extreme heat during the summer. Individuals can use these cool zones to lower utility usage and conserve energy, too!

You can call 2-1-1 to find a cool zone location near you or to be connected to a transportation or rideshare service for those unable to get to a Cool Zone location without transportation assistance, such as older adults, people with disabilities, or people who are homebound.

Homebound individuals may not be able to take advantage of traditional Cool Zone sites, which is why the County of San Diego, in partnership with SDG&E, provides free electric fans to those who are 60 years of age and older, or disabled, living on limited incomes. To be eligible, a resident must not have access to air-conditioning at their residence. Click here to complete the eligibility survey.

Power Save Rewards Program

Power Saver Rewards is available to all Californians, but only half of the energy consumers have been automatically signed up. That’s why we’re asking our supporters, many of whom are already signed up for Power Saver Rewards, to tell their friends about the free program that gives you rewards when you cut energy use while a Flex Alert is in effect.

Cost rewards earned through energy conservation actions during a Flex Alert event will be credited to a future bill statement. To find more details on how cost rewards are calculated and applied to your bill, and additional program details, visit your local utility provider’s Power Saver Rewards website.

UPCOMING MEETINGS

CIE Partner Gathering

The CIE Partner Network works to improve the overall service delivery system for clients. Our meeting provides a forum for partners to share updates about ongoing CIE Initiatives, share trends in our community, and collaborate on how we as a network are leveraging our partnership, data sharing, and the CIE technology platform to address the social determinants of health and increase health equity.

Join us for a range of content. Each month, we may dive into the latest technology projects, elicit feedback on the platform’s care coordination tools, or spotlight programs and supports for unique populations. The partner gathering is a space to engage with peers across our shared network. Join us on the 4th Thursday of every month (except November and December) at 9:00 am via Zoom.

The next CIE Partner gathering is on Jul 27, 2023, at 9 am.
