Embracing God's Gifts in Creation to Help Tend our Pain & Our Healing

yellow_closeup_flower.jpg

Sundays, 5-6pm in Stoney Chapel

9/17, 9/24, 10/8, 10/15

The painful reality of abuse--experiencing it, talking about it, hearing about it, learning about it--often triggers a variety of intense emotions, including anger, grief, pain, fear, regret, shame, sadness, isolation, and confusion. As a church community, it is important for us to acknowledge and affirm these difficult emotional experiences, and to avail ourselves of the many and varied resources God provides to support us in processing difficult emotions in ways that enable us to experience greater healing, wholeness, connection and freedom. These healing resources may include: sacraments, scripture, song, prayer & spiritual practices, somatic (body-based) practices, community, and creation itself.

All are welcome to join us for one, several, or all four sessions.

Help Wanted: Sign up to Help with St. Mark's Godly Play Class

Godly Play is a Montessori-based method of spiritual formation for young children. St. Mark's Godly Play class meets on Sundays from 11:15am-12:15pm in the downstairs Sunday School room and serves a circle of children ages 3-8. Each session is facilitated by a team of two leaders. The Storyteller is the Lead Teacher, who has received special training in Godly Play and prepares and shares the story that provides the focus for each session. The Doorperson is the Support Teacher, who helps anchor the circle of children and provides quiet support for children and the storyteller throughout the session. No special training is required--just a desire to help support and nurture the spiritual life of children at St. Mark's. We are looking for 4-6 new leaders to join our Godly Play team as Door Person/Support Teachers for this year's class.   Please click here to sign up to serve as a Door Person/Support Teacher for our Godly Play class (Simply add your name to any of the empty highlighted yellow "slots"). Healing the Broken Hearted is a six-week program designed to involve people who are somewhere in the grief process. It is designed and is presented by The Rev. Jan Hosea from a wide variety of materials including:  Restoring Hope, by Rob Voyle, EFM materials, Godly Play and a mixture of interactive and self-reflections activities. Mother Jan has developed this program over 13 years learning from each presentation and evolving the activities. She has a deep interest and has worked with grieving people for many years.

We know that grief happens and according to Elizabeth Kubler-Ross is present for over 50% of our lives, yes, 50%! That is a lot! Understanding that we are grieving and learning what we can do to move out of grief cycle can be restorative. If you are struggling with grief, please consider attending. There will be some interactive, introspective and learning components to this six-week program.
