It's been a busy week at City Hall, as you may have seen in the news.
“I wanted to find a way using what we have in our budget to be able to continue to meet our commitments to building affordable housing, while also funding the short-term need to provide safe locations for people to live in the period of time while they’re waiting for affordable housing options.” - Councilmember Cohen, KQED.
My office has worked with stakeholders to develop a proposed budget compromise that effectively resolves the funding challenge posed by the City Council’s approval of 1,000 Quick Build EIH units and supportive RV parking sites while safeguarding this year's Measure E funding dedicated to affordable housing.
The Budget Document, developed in collaboration with Councilmember Jimenez, the City Manager’s Office, and the City Budget Office, presents an innovative solution that ensures the preservation of funding for Measure E's affordable housing initiatives while addressing the urgent need of Quick Build EIH projects. This document reflects my dedication to promoting a balanced and equitable approach to budgeting and addressing the needs of all organizations involved.
