2024 ECUADOR MISSION EXPERIENCE & THANK YOU! | |
MANY THANKS TO THE SAINT PAUL’S CONGREGATION!!
The Ecuador Team wants to convey our thanks to the members of St. Paul’s for their extreme generosity in donating medical supplies and clothing to Cristo Liberador Episcopal Church and to many Education=Hope recipients in Quito, Ecuador! With the medical donations, Brenda Martinez, Coordinator of Health Initiatives for Education=Hope, will be able to bring much-needed care to patients in the area surrounding Cristo Liberador and to parishioners within that church community. Between the clothing and the medical supplies, we were able to take ten large suitcases full of supplies to the people in the Cristo community. Brenda, Mother Lourdes, and the community send their heartfelt thanks!

SOME OF OUR FAVORITE PHOTOS
"Our mission experience was very memorable, special, and spiritually enriching." These are a few but our favorite photos among them:
A photo of a joyful reunion when Caroline got to see her little friend Emily after a year of worrying about her. Her face says it all.
A photo of Cristo Liberador Episcopal Church, where so many of our meaningful interactions took place! It was there where we bind with parishioners year after year. It was there where Mother Lourdes said a special blessing for Anne and Pete. It was there where they give so much of their generosity and hospitality.
A photo of Wilson, who opened his home to three of us for lunch. He and his wife, Luisa, and their little son Jareth, were so gracious! We had a delicious home-cooked meal, made from fresh ingredients and served with love. It is families like this whose children are the recipients of Education=Hope micro-scholarships, a much needed program in this area of Quito.
A photo of Brenda Martinez with Ricky Baldwin and Anne Way. Brenda hosted two pop-up clinics in her office at Cristo Liberador where she treats people with a holistic approach......physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual issues. The medical supplies which Saint Paul's parishioners so generously donated, will go a long way in helping Brenda to minister to those who have both ongoing and urgent needs.

Another third Monday means another vestry meeting which means another report for The Weekly Postings. What a privilege to share the good work of our vestry!
Fr. Eric called the meeting to order, and we prayed together a lovely evening prayer from A New Zealand Prayer Book. Recognizing God’s presence among us gives us confidence for the tasks ahead; our prayers reflect our joy as a people of God, our gratitude for God’s love and protection.
After approval of the May meeting minutes, we engaged in a Ministry Deep Dive with Mary Porter Vann, liaison to the Pastoral Care Committee. Each month we receive an in-depth report on one of the ministries of the church. This information allows us to stay informed about the ways Saint Paul’s serves our parish and our community, and it also lets us know how best to support those who are ministering. The subcommittees under Pastoral Care provide cards and prayers of encouragement, flower and meal deliveries, and lay Eucharistic visitors. Countless individuals are touched by these caring gestures.
Melissa Friedman updated the vestry on a transition in the way we respond to food insecurities among our neighbors. For many years Manna Pantry has provided boxes of healthy food to those in need. Due to changing demographics and other circumstances, our food outreach ministry will move to giving smaller packages of food which can be available on a more timely basis. Details will be forthcoming about how we can support this important outreach.
Next, we discussed the successful Eat, Pray, Swim parish day at the lake. Eric and Melissa Friedman, Marilyn Grau, and Summer Bell had planned and organized fantastic activities for all ages. As the last dozen or so people were tidying up and preparing to head back to Augusta, tired after a long but enjoyable day, all were eagerly chatting about what fun they’d had and how they were already looking forward to Eat, Pray, Swim ’25.
Will Rice, our dutiful treasurer, presented a 2023 financial summary, as well as the 2024 year-to-date financial activity. Our 2023 audit will be conducted in the coming months.
Finally, we focused on the process by which we welcome and connect with newcomers to Saint Paul’s. This was a continuation of the work undertaken at the vestry retreat earlier in the month and reflects the great importance of making ALL feel welcome within our church community.
I hope you find knowledge of the workings of our vestry and our parish to be exciting and perhaps an encouragement to seek the places where you can share your gifts.

Senior Warden

A Few Notes on the "Management" of our Prayer List
Our official prayer list is an important part of our community of prayer, organizing our prayers for our beloveds. In order for our prayer list to be effective, we must all stay connected to the list, so we ask that you contact the parish office to update us on the status of your prayer request with a quick email monthly.
Twice a year the parish will begin a new prayer list: July 1 and January 1. Of course, it is fine for a name to remain on our list for an extended period of time; we ask that you simply email the parish office to let us know you’d like a name (new or continuing) to be added to our new list.
