Sharing the Heart of God from the Heart of Downtown Macon

“Mulberry is back!”
That was one of the many comments recorded after table discussions at Monday’s Church Council meeting. We had a wonderful, enthusiastic, and exciting time of learning and discussion. Of all the comments we received from the 95 people gathered together, I would say the number one word was, “positive.” Thank you to those of you who came, who took the time to be part of our evening together. We as a staff are continuing to comb through all your feedback from the discussion questions. Those comments will come back to help guide our strategic planning as a council in September.
In case you missed it, at the meeting, I gave a presentation titled, “From the Past Will Come Our Future;” a chance to talk about where we’ve been and where we’re going. I proposed that we adopt a missional focus, a way of specifying how we will live out our mission. The church council approved of this, with enthusiasm!

Our focus is: To foster healing for the broken places of life within the communities we serve.
The number one question from the feedback forms was this: where do we begin? I’m so encouraged by that question! We together have ownership of this missional focus, as we learn together how to live into it. I’m a big believer, as I said Monday evening, of building things organically: starting somewhere and seeing what the Holy Spirit does with what we do. That will be the case here: to build upon what we’re already doing in fostering healing for the broken places of life.
Here are two examples of how we have engaged In healing ministry recently. First, last week, we mailed out fifty-five care packages to our youth who are facing finals, showing care, which is a form of healing ministry. Second, Onna continues to send out her weekly mailing to our homebound folks, including a monthly gift to them from the church. This is also a way of showing care and hospitality, both forms of healing ministry.
And coming up, here are places where you can get involved in fostering healing for the broken places of life:
- Adopt a college student! In the fall, we’re launching a program to pair local students with Mulberry families.
- Volunteer with Vacation Bible School! Contact Elisa to learn about opportunities, both those that work with children and those that are behind-the-scenes
- Volunteer at our next Service Sunday! We’ll be helping get the church ready for Vacation Bible School and have some repair projects.
- Participate in the Children and Youth Great Day of Service, coming up June 26-28! There are activities for all ages!
- Youth! Sign-up for the youth mission trip to Savannah coming up July 17-21
- Mark your calendars for the next GTG trip, coming up October 20-22 at the Hinton Rural Life Center in North Carolina.
- Start conversations about how your Sunday School class, your small group, your committee can foster healing for the broken places of life.
- Not in a Sunday School class, small group, or on a committee? No problem! Let us know and we’ll get something going
- Give to support the church! Your support enables the ministry we do here to foster healing for the broken places of life as we share the heart of God from the heart of downtown Macon
-
Not yet a giver? Sign-up to give regularly or to make a one-time gift at mulberrymethodist.org/give
- Already a giver? Thank you for your generous and continued support!
Finally, bring us all your ideas. So often, I find that when you come with ideas, the Holy Spirit has already birthed that idea with someone else. That’s how we get things going: we pair the people and resources together where the Holy Spirit is at work, moving in the ways God is calling us.
I’m excited for our future together and ready to write the next chapter. We began that Monday and I can’t wait to see where the Holy Spirit leads us.
With gratitude,
Ted
