GRANT UPDATE

Thanks to the generous grant from the Crampton Trust last spring, we are creating a new center for innovations and STEMM on our University Campus.

We can't wait to reveal the final renovation pictures soon. However, we still need to finish painting the walls and trim, run the necessary electrical access points, mount the monitors, hang the dry-erase boards, and move in the CNC machine, 3D printers, laser engravers, and other equipment used there. For now, here is our work-in-progress sneak peek!

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: EVELYN'S AMAZING ACHIEVEMENT

This summer, Evelyn Cummings attended Speech and Debate Nationals in Phoenix, Arizona with 6,000 students from all over the country. The competition is held each year for the top 2 competitors in each state for every category.

To qualify for Nationals, students must place 1st or 2nd place in a main event such as Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, or Congress. St. Lukes's had 3 students qualify and compete: Andrew Burchett, Elly Musial and Evelyn Cummings.

During Nationals, Evelyn had to compete in three rounds for two days before seeing if she would break into the top 100. She stated, "The thing I loved most about Nationals was that I was around so many different people with different stories and yet we all had one common interest."

Evelyn would love to attend Nationals again and hopes to continue to qualify throughout high school.

Keep shining bright Evelyn, you're going places!

INTRODUCING ST. LUKE'S COLLEGE COUNSELOR

St. Luke’s is pleased to announce that Gwen Eudy has accepted the college counselor position for the 2023-2024 school year. Mrs. Eudy has over 40 years of experience in education, with a B.S. and M.S. degree in secondary education. Her educational background includes teaching English and History for 13 years at Houston Academy in Dothan, Alabama, and teaching both subjects at St. Paul’s Episcopal for 10 years. After 18 years of teaching Advanced Placement courses in European History and United States History, she recently retired from the Baldwin County school system. Because she has taught both Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment classes for Coastal Alabama Junior College, she has worked closely with juniors and seniors these past few years. She is very much aware of college scholarships and the importance of recommendations for students. Since her retirement, Mrs. Eudy didn’t realize how much she missed contact with young people and the satisfaction of helping students achieve their goals. She said nothing beats a teacher or administrator who is compassionate towards young people and is passionate about what they do!

We are pleased to welcome Gwen Eudy to St. Luke’s. Her office is in Student Services, and she will be available Tuesdays through Thursdays from 8:00-3:30.
