Splattered Canvas

Splattered Canvas

I have four children an all of them are gifted in great ways, but two of them are artists and so often times I am thinking through art analogies and this one came to mind.

Consider your life a canvas and the world around you just seemed like a chaotic mess.  I imagine my life canvas to be splattered with all kinds of colors, including some dominate dark ones. And as I stand back and reflect on the worldly edges that have been portrayed having no distinct design.  And then as I consider my life (canvased  work in progress) that I have allowed the world to throw the darkened

splatters on…..there is no beauty in those splatters! For there was no thought or reasoning or intentionality in dealing with what the splattered markings represent.

So then what… in confusion, I prayed asking God to help me make something worthy out of some of the the splatters that I have allowed to come pouncing on my canvas.  And gently in my thoughts, as God often does, he helped me to develop a different perspective, Lets blend the colors and weave them in between or overlapping the dark splats.  The darkened areas will add depth to the canvas  and the colors will be accented  and be a beautiful contrast to the dark areas. The canvas will begin to  take on a new appearance.  It  will begin to take a shape and design all of its own, and God will help make it  a masterpiece of the soul.

We all are burdened at one time or another with the circumstances that come barreling our way. And those are the splatters that land on our canvas of life and leave a mark of discomfort, anxiety, disillusionment, frustration, anger and who knows what other emotions.  But if we take time and ask God who already knows what platters have hit, he will help us to find a way to let those dark splats be the thin that brings us closer and more dependent on HIM! Which is what his goal for our lives is. If we are not exposed to the dark we would not appreciate the light that God is shining in and around us.

I know this is kind of a loose analogy.  But I have experienced dark splatters and it, to me, is amazing how much peace God has and will give me when I humbly submit to his Lordship, his ways and ask for help. Dark Splatters, if not acknowledged, will turn to smudges, and   leave any if us with a dreary canvas of loneliness, and painful sufferings, if we don’t allow him to help us through difficult and trying times.   We all have colors to offset darkness, but at all times, and in all situations, we need God to help us brush our canvas  with strokes of love, accomplishment, awareness of who he has made us to be with HIS gifts  and talents into a canvas of joy  and realized blessings and thanksgiving for what we have and who we have in our lives.    As God loves us we are to love one another and help others to blend God’s colors of love and grace into the canvas that he has given them as well as our own.

May your canvas be painted with love and outlined with times that you have allowed God to help you overcome the dark splatters and contrasted those times with colorful joy and a palate of peace.

Ephesians 2:10

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Praise God wherever you are or whatever situation he has allowed you to be in...for his Glory will shine through!
