Welcome Dr. Courtney Hansen, Psy.D.
We were pleased to welcome Dr. Courtney Hansen to our Summit Center team earlier this year. Dr. Hansen is a licensed psychologist and neuropsychologist who provides assessment services to children, adolescents, and adults at our Walnut Creek office.
Dr. Hansen is passionate about providing individualized and comprehensive neuropsychological and educational evaluations for diverse populations, including the LGBTQ+ community. She views assessment as a tool in creating a full and detailed picture of an individual’s strengths and challenges in order to develop the best supports for them in their home, school, work, and community settings.
Dr. Hansen’s professional interests and experience include assessment for individuals with neurodevelopmental concerns (including giftedness, twice exceptionality, autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, and learning disabilities), neurologic and genetic conditions (including seizure disorders, traumatic brain injury, and cerebral palsy) and broad social, emotional, and behavioral concerns. In September 2018, journalist and filmmaker Chezik Tsunoda’s life changed when her son Yori died after a tragic drowning accident. Dr. Dan interviews Chezik Tsunoda about her loss and her sorrow as well as her powerful documentaryDrowning in Silence about the grief she experienced after losing her son to drowning. The film is a beautiful tribute to her son but also a call to action for Black communities to incorporate water safety into their daily lives. Sixty-four percent of African-Americans have no swimming ability. In addition, fatal drowning is the leading cause of death for children one to four, according to the CDC.

Dr. Dan and Ebele discuss how social media can actually serve as a positive lifeline for teens in need of healthy connections. They explore how to strike a balance between IRL (“in real life”) and online connections – in a healthy way.

Summit Center's Doctoral Training Program provides high-quality assessment and counseling services for children and adolescents at reduced fees. Our doctoral trainees Briana English, Delaney Wells, Rachel Murley and Sammy DeVincentare based at our Walnut Creek office (click each name for a complete bio).
