Welcome to St. Laurence

Thanks, St Laurence, for your generosity:

You donated 186 pounds of food to the Food Bank this year! Thank you also to Melanie and others who put on a sumptuous Harvest Lunch last week.

Photos: Our Thanksgiving “canstruction” took the form of the city of Calgary, and included the Calgary Tower as centerpiece.

Please join us for Sunday worship this week, and stay for fellowship and for Conversations. This week’s conversations will be led by MJ, and will address memory loss, dementia, and ministry.

If you are unable to join us for worship in person, please join our livestream service through the link below, or watch a video at your leisure.

Videos of past services may be accessed via the livestream link on our website.

CATHEDRAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

LEARN TO LOVE - How do we love our neighbours literally on our doorstep? Your Cathedral invites you to receive frontline training on how to care for the houseless, free-of-charge, every Sunday morning from experienced, professional workers. Inquire with our volunteer coordinator, Wendy, for more information. wendy.d@anglicancathedralcalgary.ca

TRANSGENDERISM AND FAITH - The Cathedral is providing TWO upcoming opportunities to learn and grow in our awareness and support of the transgender community. The first is a Zoom educational event featuring Dr. Eileen Scully, Director, Faith, Worship & Ministry for the national church where Dean Chris Dowdeswell and Rev Derwyn Costinak will interview her on the new "Pastoral Liturgies for Journeys of Gender Affirmation and Transition" passed at this summer's General Synod. This event will take place on Sunday, Nov 5 from 4-6pm. Email trans@anglicancathedralcalgary.ca to register and the link will be sent to you shortly before the event.

The second is the Cathedral's annual service of prayer for the Transgender Day of Remembrance. This will take place on Saturday Nov 18th at 7pm. This service will not be livestreamed, but all transgender people and their allies are encouraged to join us in person. For more information on transgenderism and suicide, see the Mental Health Commission of Canada's fact sheet.

PWRDF
News from PWRDF:

It is my pleasure to inform you that PWRDF has established a fund specifically to allow us, as Canadian Anglicans to respond quickly when a Canadian diocese asks for disaster support. This new fund, called the In-Canada Emergency Response Fund will collect donations on an on-going basis and therefore, funds will be available immediately in the face of disaster rather than the previous method where a diocese asks for funds following a disaster and the fund appeal then was made known to the larger Anglican community. There was always a huge lag in time between the request and the ability to send funds. This new In-Canada Emergency Response Fund will receive your generous donations at any time and therefore, will be ready to act quickly on our behalf. A win-win for all involved.

In the light of all that has happened this summer here in Canada with wildfires, floods and devastation, please consider making a donation to the In-Canada Emergency Response Fund via the website pwrdf.org. I have already sent my thanks and gratitude on behalf of our parish to the team at PWRDF congratulating them on this fine intiative.

With thanks,
Carol
