Heart Connections - September 2023

In September, GMHS helped 69 pets meet their match! Also, 71 pets were transferred to adoption-guaranteed partners through our Highway to Home program. Pictured are just a few of the happy, adoption day photos. Thank you to those who chose to open their heart and home to a formerly homeless pet!

Could you be the next to make a heart connection?

September 2023 Shelter Snapshot

The generous support of staff, volunteers, and donors enables GMHS to provide daily care, cover special medical needs, foster animals in homes as needed, and arrange transportation to adoption-guaranteed partners.

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and we can't wait to introduce you to your new best friend!

To celebrate, GMHS is hosting a canine adoption special all month long! All dog adoptions will be reduced by 50% October 1-31. We can't wait to see all the heart connections made during this exciting month!

We are looking to grow the ranks of our foster volunteers.

All foster volunteers receive training and necessary supplies. If you would like to join our foster team and be a super hero for our community's kittens, please contact Foster Coordinator Chevy Carper by email.

Compassionate Community

Bonnie Stainback (left) from The Closing Shop and Sydney Early and Jeanell Lafata (right) from Teagle Insurance Agency dropped by donations for the homeless pets of GMHS.

For the eighth year in a row, area businesses joined forces in a fundraising effort supporting GMHS. From Aug. 14-31, donation collections were set up around the community at local businesses including Bay School Community Arts Center, Brent and Becky’s Bulbs, CA&J Farm, Gloucester Main Street Association office, Teagle Insurance Agency, The Closing Shop, The Silver Box, Village Cleaners and Whitley’s Peanuts. Thank you to all the participating businesses as well as many generous donors within the community. The animals appreciate your help, and so do we!

Thank you to Cheryl, representative for Bay Quilters in Mathews, for bringing in over 250 hand-made pillows and beds for the dogs and cats at GMHS. We appreciate your heart for homeless pets!

Support GMHS and Save Lives

Bonnie was brought into the care of GMHS this month after being found as a stray in our community. Bonnie was in active labor upon intake and gave birth to 8 puppies.

Did you know the total daily care cost for a puppy (birth to eight weeks) is $979?

Your donation enables us to provide shelter and care for all pets in need, including puppies, while they await adoption or transfer to a Highway to Home adoption-guaranteed partner.

Your sustainable gift makes our life-saving mission possible, and we thank you for your support!
