MESSAGE FROM RICKY

Dear friends,

This Sunday is Pentecost! This is the day in which we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit that fell on the first Christians and empowered them to go into all the world and share the love of Jesus. It's also sometimes considered the "birthday" of the church.

One of the traditions at birthday parties it to make a wish when you blow out the candles. So, perhaps this Sunday, as we celebrate the birthday of the church, you can think of a wish you have for the future of First United Methodist Church.

As we transition to a new senior pastor, this is an opportunity to wish big for our future. I know that God has big plans for the people of God here in this corner for his Kingdom. As we celebrate Pentecost, may the Holy Spirit once again come and empower us to share Jesus with others and to ask God to move in a mighty way among us.

We are excited for summer here at First UMC and you can best believe we will be having fun all summer long! Here's our summer family event schedule - make sure to save the dates and keep an eye out for our kids and youth communications so you don't miss a sign up! And don't worry - if you don't have a kid in that age range, don't let that stop you from coming! All events will be family friendly, no matter the age! FAREWELL TO RICKY!

Join us on June 4th in the gym from 10-10:45 am for a farewell recep- tion for our outgoing Senior Pastor, Ricky James and his family.

Jesus is the Reason for Any Season! The dates for CHRISTMAS IN JULY are July 10th-13th from 5:15-8:15pm each evening. Over the course of four days, we will explore the Advent themes of hope, peace, joy, and love.

Each year FUMC's VBS event is a huge ministry to the children of our church and the local community. Lives are touched, friends are made, and the Word of God is taught to all who attend.

MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK

SENIOR SERVICES

On May 14th, church member Alice Gorman spoke to us about how we as the Church can be a part of the ministry at Methodist Senior Services! We are praying a blessing over this vital ministry in Mississippi.

MSS has a Sunday Fund, which benefits those in the state who have financial burdens. 100% of the money you donate goes into the benevolence fund. If you'd like to donate, you can do so by visiting their website or by denoting "sunday fund" in the memo line of a check, dropped off or mailed to the church office.
