Golden Arches for Stellar Attendance

In Matthew 19:14, Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these". These children came unhindered, and they came every time this summer! Exceptional attendance deserves a delicious reward, and what better way to celebrate than with a trip to McDonald's! The MCH Gano kids who demonstrated perfect attendance in our summer Kids Club program were granted the exciting opportunity to indulge in their favorite McDonald's meals. One of the children shared with Ms. Cheryl, "I've always wanted to come to McDonalds, but I've never been because my mom say she can't afford it". This initiative not only motivates the children to prioritize attendance, but also fosters a sense of accomplishment, reinforcing the importance of commitment and punctuality.

We Had a 'Dog-on' Great Day at Our Senior Adult Program

Faithful Paws Pet Therapy, a compassionate organization dedicated to spreading joy and comfort, recently paid a visit to our group of seniors. They left behind an abundance of smiles and warmth. The simple act of stroking a soft coat or a wagging tail can evoke a sense of calm, reduce stress levels, and stimulate the release of endorphins, thus improving overall mental health. Faithful Paws Pet Therapy's visit undoubtedly brought immeasurable joy and therapeutic benefits to the seniors through the unconditional love the pets showed. It reminding them of the unconditional love God shows toward us.

Volunteer Spotlight: A Lasting Legacy

For over 16 years Gilbert Vasquez has volunteered with Mission Centers of Houston. His wife, Imelda, says he woke up very early because he was excited to come and help. He was always the first one to arrive on Tuesdays to help with the pantry at Gano Center. Imelda joined him 5 years ago and has enjoyed being there to pray for our pantry participants and fix lunch for the rest of the volunteers. Lastly, 1-2 years ago they brought their grandson, Emiliano, to come and help too. All three of them have been such a blessing to MCH. Our programs could not run without our valuable volunteers. If you feel moved to come and help remember there will always be a place for you here at MCH.

A Compassionate Lunch Experience

On July 14th, The Compassion Center hosted its first quarterly network lunch. Pastors and church leaders from all over Houston came together at Gano to connect with and encourage each other, hear an encouraging devotion from one of our network pastors, (and MCH board members, Dr. Steve Hall) and hear about opportunities and resources to better serve their communities. We are so excited for the camaraderie that was built through the luncheon, and we look forward to seeing what God does through the network’s partnership together.

A Picnic With A Purpose

MCH had the privilege of hosting a truly special event for the homeless community in our city. We partnered with The MET Church, volunteers, and community members who generously contributed their time, resources, and expertise to make this event possible.

The scorching summer heat provided the perfect backdrop for our event, as we gathered in an air-conditioned space to provide respite to those without a home. Our primary aim was to create a safe and comfortable environment where our guests could feel valued, respected, and cared for.

As our guests arrived, they were greeted with warm smiles and open arms. We had a wide array of clothing items available, including shirts, socks, and shoes, graciously donated by Bombas, Walmart, and many supporting partners. Our volunteers helped individuals choose outfits that suited their preferences and sizes, allowing them to experience the dignity and joy of wearing clean and comfortable clothes.

While our guests settled into the cool surroundings, the tantalizing aroma of a sizzling barbecue filled the air. Our dedicated team of volunteers prepared and served delicious meals, offering a range of mouthwatering options for everyone to enjoy. The picnic atmosphere provided an opportunity for people to come together, socialize, and share stories, fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie.

In addition to clothing and food, we recognized the importance of personal care and grooming. Our event featured professional hairstylists who volunteered their expertise, providing haircuts to those who desired them. This small act of kindness not only enhanced physical appearances, but also boosted self-esteem and instilled a renewed sense of confidence among our guests.

The success of our Homeless Picnic Luncheon was made possible by the unwavering support of our community. We extend our deepest gratitude to all the volunteers, donors, and partners who selflessly contributed their time, resources, and skills to make this event a memorable one. Your collective efforts have made a significant impact on the lives of those experiencing homelessness. We remain committed to our mission of changing lives through the love, mercy and grace of Jesus Christ, and we invite you to join us in this journey. Your support, whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness, makes a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.
