2nd Annual Clunan Lecture
is on the Calendar!
|
Save September 19, 2024, at 5:30 PM at the Neighborhood House in Northeast Harbor for another compelling lecture on world affairs honoring our founders, Dorothy and Jim Clunan.
Finding a speaker to live up to last year’s well-received presentation by Dr. Anne Clunan has been a challenge, and we are confident we have identified a winner. She is Anne Hall, US Ambassador to Lithuania in 2016-2019, a career foreign service officer like the Clunans, a native Mainer and our neighbor in Blue Hill. She has been deeply involved in European affairs and the negotiations and tensions over NATO expansion to the east. Among other senior diplomatic positions, she has been Director of the Office of Central European Affairs at the State Department where she managed US relations with Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Lichtenstein, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Switzerland.
Please come and bring your houseguests!

Remembering
Moorhead "Mike" C. Kennedy Jr.
| |
Moorhead C. Kennedy Jr., captive in Iran hostage crisis, dies at 93
Acadia Senior College is blessed to have had Mike Kennedy in our midst. Mike served as President of ASC 2010-2013 and taught several classes on the Middle East and Islam. Bill Dohmen, also a past ASC president, recalls that "at the first organizational meeting of the college in 2000, Mike was one of the first people to stand up and say 'I'll teach a course'. This got the ball rolling and really encouraged others to step up." He was a fine man and will be missed.

Reminder - Spring Appeal Continues | |
Our spring appeal is underway. We need your help to sustain ASC learning opportunities and continue to offer a broad range of courses, lecture topics, field trips, and social events. Membership fees and course tuition go a long way to support the college, but we still rely on contributions for about 1/3 of our annual budget.
You can donate online or if you prefer you may mail a check to
ASC, PO Box 475, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679. Would you consider becoming a monthly donor? This is a convenient way to donate a little at a time throughout the year. Also, remember you can also make a donation to honor or memorialize a special person at any time.
We truly count on your support!

Field Trip to Maine Maritime Academy |
A couple of dozen ASC members were treated to a tour of the Maine Maritime Academy on a beautiful spring day. During the first part of the tour, members learned about the 103-year-old schooner Bowdoin heading to the Arctic for the summer. Following the discussion of the voyage with the captain, visitors toured the campus and learned about MMA's schools of Engineering, Management, Science, and Transportation.
Watch a short video about last year's voyage of the Bowdoin.
