Sixty Seconds with the Superintendent

Each week, we receive questions for the Superintendent from students in pre-K through 12th grade. In this video series, Ms. Beamon will answer these questions and help our families and the community we serve get to know the leader of our public schools.

What's Cool in Our Schools

Evans Elementary Hosts Physics Bus

Mrs. Scanlon’s 4th grade students had a great time on the SCPS Physics Bus! Seminole County Public Schools is the ONLY district to have physics buses that visit our students at school.

Our fleet of physics buses include three areas of Physics:

  • Electricity and Magnetism
  • Optics
  • Mechanics

Each physics bus is a retired school bus donated by the SCPS Transportation department. Much of the conversion is completed by SCPS staff. The buses are fully funded by SCPS Foundation grants, corporate and individual donations.

Rainbow Elementary Field Trips Create Special Learning Opportunities

Second and third graders from Rainbow Elementary enjoyed recent field trips to the Central Florida Zoo and Kennedy Space Center. Hands-on learning opportunities keep students engaged and help them connect classroom lessons with real-world application.

The SCPS Community Leadership Academy Visits Pinecrest Elementary

The SCPS Community Leadership Academy is the ideal way of learning more about the different facets and goals of Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS). The academy is a 10-month series that meets once a month and highlights a variety of different topics. Each of the meetings are held at a different school or facility throughout the district where participants receive behind the scenes tours, meet with executive leadership and staff, and become further educated on the many programs and services offered.

Today, community members toured Pine Crest Elementary and learned more about the innovation-focused campus. They even got to play hands-on with science machines around campus!

This is a great opportunity to gain a new perspective on what it takes to become a premier high-achieving public school district and what the future holds for SCPS and our students. Stay tuned for more information on the application process for the 2023-2024 school year.

Attendees were able to experiment with one of the media center's "flexibits" to determine how weight impacts the PSI needed to launch rockets. Now that is Physics in action!

Pepper, one of Pinecrest's robots, is known for her personality! She won't tell you a joke unless she is in the mood, however, this attendee won her over and had a great laugh.

SCPS Spotlights

Milwee Middle School JROTC Places High in Iron Knights

Milwee's JROTC participated in UCF's Iron Knight competition. This was a 5-mile race, which included 50 pull-ups, 150 push-ups, 80 reps of deadlines of 110 pounds, litter carry of 200 pounds under bard wire, burpees and a 150 pound sled drag. They competed against college and high school teams and were the ONLY middle school team! They placed 37 and 41 out of 60 teams.

Red Bug Elementary Celebrates Black History Month

Today, Red Bug Elementary second graders celebrated Black History Month by having a wax museum. Students at RBE were able to choose a famous African American to learn about and tell why they were important to our world's history.

The students created a project where they researched facts, found photographs, and dressed as their person to share contributions about these important figures in history. Parents and the community were invited to the student presentations to celebrate their hard work and creativity.
